    3. Interested in John McKee born 29 Dec 1793; wife Margaret 7 Sept 1791 both died and are buried in Neshoba Co., MS, Morrow Cemetery. What connection, if any, do they have to: John McKee born 20 May 1828 in Ireland died in Neshoba Co. and Thomas McKee born Jun 1834 lived in Neshoba Co. until early 1870's when he moved to Hopkins Co., TX and died there.

    3. Loudene, I have for a long time been interested in the John McKee familys of Neshoba County. I am a descendant of William R. McKee who was a substantial property owner in Noxubee and Kemper Counties. William R. McKee was from Chester County, South Carolina. I believe him to be the William McKee named, by John McKee of the Pinckney District is his will dated 11 September 1794, as his son, along with five other children, Samuel Collins McKee, who seems to have been born of a previous marriage, Susanna Mckee, John McKee, Martha McKee and James McKee. John McKee's widow was Agness McKee. On 24 July 1799, Agness McKee and others were appointed administrators of the estate of John McKee of Pinckney District. In the 1850 Census, there were two John McKees residing in Neshoba County. One listed in family 476, was aged 22 years and born in Ireland, the otherr in household 447, family 467 was aged 65 and born in South Carolina. Both men were married to ladys named Margaret. In the 1850 Census for Kemper County, there is a John McKee, aged 28 years, claiming to be born in Ireland. He was censused next to Kelsey McKee, aged 24 years, also claiming to have been born in Ireland. William R. McKee had two sons named John McKee and Hugh Kelsey McKee. In tracing William's movements as he came west, there is a gap, in which it would have been possible for the family to have returned to Ireland. So far, I have been unable to find confirming information in subsequent censuses. People researching William's son John, do not think this is the same man. There is no question of Hugh Kelsey McKee not being William's son, as William married Margaret Kelsey, the daughter of Hugh Kelsey/Kelso of Chester County, SC--this is confirmed from several sources. The John McKee of Neshoba County who was born in SC was born 19 December 1783, SC and married before 1812, Margaret Cunningham, born 7 September 1791, SC. In the 1830's they migrated to Neshoba County and are buried in Morrow Cemetery. William R. McKee's know migratory path was Chester County, SC>Gap>Perry County, Alabama>Noxubee County, Mississippi. I do not know if this is any help. The John McKee in Neshoba County, of Ireland is either a son of the other John McKee, or they are not related at all. Marleen Van Horne

    3. I know I'm butting in on your conversation, but I, too, am interested in the McKee's of Neshoba County, Mississippi. You've probably seen messages from me or queries from me about the McKee's there. My great, great grandmother was an Elizabeth McKee, born in 1798 in either York or Chester Co., SC. I'm not positive which one. I know that she married my gg grandfather, John Clark, in about 1814, in either York or Chester Co., SC. They left York Co. with John Clark's parents, James and Mary (Cowan) Clark, to go to Tennessee, and arrived in Lincoln Co., TN before 1820. After John Clark's death in 1837, Elizabeth (McKee) Clark left Lincoln Co., TN and went south to Neshoba Co. I have wondered for a long time why she went there. It seems likely to me that she had relatives there, doesn't it to you? I believe one son, Hugh Clark, may have already been down in that area - Kemper Co., maybe. Elizabeth took her minor children with her, of course, and I believe left some grown children in Lincoln Co. Her youngest child, Ebenezer Samuel (Sam) Clark, born in Lincoln Co. in 1835, was my great grandfather. Another child that I know of who went with Elizabeth, was Joseph Clark (who had married an Abigail Earnest). These two Clarks - Sam and Joseph had large families and many descendants (maybe still some living there - but I'm not sure). My great grandfather was in the Civil War and then came out to be a Baptist minister and was the first minister for White Oaks Baptist Church, I understand. He married Elizabeth Winfield and one of their daughters was my grandmother - Louisa Frances (Fanny) Clark, born in about 1864. Fanny later married my grandfather, John Randal Johnson, who was born in Neshoba Co. in 1859 and their oldest son was my father - Walter I. Johnson, born in 1885 (I was born in 1936, myself, when my father was almost 51 years of age!). So now, you pretty much have my history in Neshoba Co. I hope that somebody will be able to tell me one way or the other if Elizabeth McKee Clark was a sister to one of their McKees, since they came from the same general area of South Carolina. Thanks for your response. Sue (Johnson) Howard

    3. That's all right Sue. I really don't have anything further on the McKee family. Good luck. Loudene

    3. Hi Sue, I am a little late in sending out this to you for this has been on my computer for several days but I wanted to ask you if in your Clark line have any Beards. My GG grandfather was Alexander Beard who moved from NC to Lincoln County, TN -- In Alexander's bible he put down that he and Elizabeth married -- a date which I can not remember right now --I do not have my notes in front of me. But he did not put down her maiden name. Now I have found some that say she was Elizabeth Clark and some say that she was not a Clark. So I thought it would just be a long shot if you had Beard's in your line of Clarks?? Now I am told that Alexander Beard had a son Alexander Jr. and he did marry a Nancy Clark and I think that is right. I think it seems strange that with his mother being a Clark that he would marry a Clark?? Don't you think so. Just thought I would ask. 3. Thank you. If he is a son of John McKee the elder, then that John McKee would have been born in Ireland also, I believe. Do not believe they would have returned to Ireland. But do believe it's very possible he may have been a cousin. May never know.
