I have received (from Hazle Boss Neet, a researcher in Pontotoc, MS) a copy of the marriage record/license for my gg grandfather, Ransom H. Brown and Jane Oliver dated March 15/16, 1858 in Pontotoc Co., MS. Jane was Ransom's second wife, and not my gg grandmother. Also on the same legal size length paper, was the marriage record/license for a Charles Ewing and Elizabeth McClennan (sp?) dated March 15, 1858. Anyone interested or descending from these two people? Also, Hazle Boss Neet gave me a list of burial sites for various Lamar family members (my gg grandmother - Mariah (Lamar) Brown - Ransom's first wife, was not on the list). If anyone would like to receive the list, I can type it out for them. Just wanted you all to know, that even though it has taken me a few years, little by little I'm putting the pieces together on my Brown/Lamar/Johnson ancestors. Oh, and also (John Byrd, take notice), guess who the minister was for Ransom Brown and Jane Oliver's wedding - you guessed it, G. C. Johnson, M. G. I'm going to assume that this was George Cunningham Johnson, Minister of God, who was a brother to my Randolph Johnson. Randolph's son, Joseph Abner or Joab Johnson, is the one who married Ransom's oldest daughter, Mary Undine Brown, also in 1858. For Russell researchers, there was a John M. Russell who signed the marriage license at the bottom and it says: "Know all Men That We, R. H. Brown and J. M. Russell are held and firmly bound to the State of Mississippi, Governor of the State of Mississippi, and his successors, in the sum of Two Hundred Dollars, for payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally. Signed, sealed and dated this 15 day of March A. D., 1858. BUT THIS BOND IS ON A CONDITION that a MARRIAGE being shortly intended to be solemnized between R. H. Brown and Jane Oliver. NOW, if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said MARRIAGE, for which a license has issued, then this obligation is to be void, else to remain in full force. R. H. Brown John M. Russell" The wedding record was not only signed by G. C. Johnson, M. G., but also by a D. J. Pitts, Clerk, if anybody is looking for him.
