Hello All, People new to Mississippi genealogy may not realize how many of that state's counties have in one way or another lost their records. Even if they have looked at the Family History Library catalog, they may not be aware that the dirth of records on microfilm is the result of fire, flood, famine and war, rather than a failure to film the records. So, it is easy to see why a person might be disappointed when they log on to a particular website and find that the information available does not live up to their expectations. However, we should all keep in mind that we should not be critical, until we find out for sure that we really have something to be critical about. Marsha Bryant the webmaster of the USGenWeb Neshoba County, Mississippi website also maintains the Kemper County website, a possibly a couple of others that I do not visit. In the case of Neshoba and Kemper Counties, I know from my own research that the information available on these websites, is pretty close to all that is available in public domaine. What is not on. these websites would be a violation of copyright to publish there. The information on these websites is the result of many hours of transcription by Marsha and an army of other researchers who have generously donated their time to the various projects, and freely shared the information with others. Let's not be too hard on someone who is just learning what we have already learned, that Mississippi research is frustratingly difficult. On the other hand, this is a good opportunity to thank Marsha and her army of transcribers and contributors for making what little information that exists, available to us all. Marleen Van Horne
