Gayle; I hate to ask so much of you, but do you have any other Breland's. I have a list of about 19 and some of their spouses that I have no knowledge of many: Absolem, Beatrice, Edward, Egbert Andrew, Egbert Arthur, Emma, George, Ina, John, Joseph, Martha, Marvin, Nancy, Nancy E., and Oliver. All of us folks sure appreciate your help and if I can help you in any way, please let me know. Gladys Clark, Arkansas
There is a whole page and 1/2 of Clark's in this book. You can purchase a copy of this book from the Neshoba County Public Library, 230 Beacon St., Philadelphia, Ms 39350. There was a book published by the Neshoba County Historical Society and it was due to the diligent work of Col. Dewey F. Brown that it got printed. Years later The Neshoba County Library felt that an update was needed. That is this book. "Our Links To The Past" 1833-1996 Cemetery Records of Neshoba County, Ms. The book is a nice large hard back book of 692 pages. It is well worth whatever you have to pay for it. I have used my copy over and over. I'm not sure of the cost now as I have had my copy for several years. You might contact the Library and get further information. Thanks Gayle D
I have Martha Winstead Breland, buried at Pine Grove Baptist Church, House, Ms; Section 19, Township 9, Range 13, Neshoba County, Ms. Breland, Martha Winstead 19 Feb 1890-13 Aug 1955. This information is from "Our Links to the Past", 1833-1996 Cemetery Records of Neshoba County, Ms. Gayle D
I have Joseph Abner Johnson, son of Randolph Johnson, are these the same individuals you have? GLadys
Sylvia; I may have missed out on your subject but do you have any information on a Martha L. Winstead that m. Breland? I have that on my family records, but not much further on them. Gladys Clark, Arkansas
Gayle; I have many I could ask you about from Neshoba Co., MS if you have them in your Cem. records. But for starters, do you have Clark? Where did you happen to run across this book and who is it by? Thanks, Gladys Clark

It seems that Neshoba Co is full of interesting stories such as the one Sylvia McMimm relates about the screech owl landing on the bed of Rachael Winstead and the child subsequently dying. Does anyone know if there has ever been a book written documenting some of these stories and perhaps examining the origins of the stories? I've wondered to what extend the Indian heritage of Neshoba Co plays in all this. Their legends certainly involve a lot of interactions between humans and animals. My Mom (Pauline Hardy) grew up in Neshoba Co in the 1920-1930's and genuinely believed that if you heard a screech owl holler you could stop it by turning your pants pockets inside out. I asked how that worked and she said it turned the screech owl inside out. Maybe Sylvia's Granddaddy wouldn' t have had to do all that shooting if he had known that (grin). Hello Gayle, Would you please look in your cemetery book and see if you can find my great-grandfather and g-grandmother. They are Benjamin Roberts born about 1800 in MS and died about 1858 or 1859 in Neshoba County and his wife Frances "Fannie" Searcy Roberts. She died before Benjamin but I do not have a date.
