    1. [MSMONROE] Death of Mrs. Floree Ray King
    2. Barbara Woolbright Carruth
    3. Mrs. Floree Ray King died yesterday August 3, 2007 in the Care Center in Vernon, AL. She is my aunt by marriage and was a good friend. Born July 9, 1912 into the home of Frances Marion Ray and Adelena Arizona Irvin. Until about 2 years ago, she was " sharp as a tack". She remembered everything she had heard or knew first hand it seemed. Aunt Floree and her sister Mrs. Onay Ray Beard have been helpful to many researchers through the years. Mrs. Onay at age 96 still has a good memory and lives with her daughter and son-in-law. I really got to know Aunt Floree in 1999, when I became interested in the history of Monroe County Ms. Her help has been invaluable. In the early days of our friendship, she stayed busy in the nursing home recording her memories of family neighbors and community. She lived in the Sipsey Fork community, near Splunge and Greenwood Springs. Someday I hope to organize her work and make available to the public. Aunt Floree's service will be held tomorrow, Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. She will be buried in the Pickle Cemetery in Sipsey Fork Community. Her son, Bill and family will be at the funeral home to greet friends and family before the service from 12:00 p.m until 2:00 p.m. An article she wrote about school days at Center point school is posted on the following web site. http://www.fayette.net/CARRUTH/floreeschooldays.htm I will be moving this site and posting new information on Monroe County in the coming weeks as I finally have faster internet service. The new site's address will be msbsresearch.com ; the site is not up yet but hopefully will be soon. Thanks, Barbara Woolbright Carruth

    3. Thank you Barbara. It's so sad when a pioneer passes. Mrs King was lucky to have a friend like you to memorialize her.
