Florence, Scanning it and making it available via the Web is not possible because of copyrights. They would probably have to obtain the permission of every single contributor; get permissions on photographs again; etc. I do know that it is estimated that copies of the book would be in the $125-$150 range if it was republished. There is a great deal of concern about how many people would purchase copies at that price. Its a terrible waste of the time and energy of those people who originally put it together to just have it sit on private bookshelves and not be used. Surely the Monroe County History Society has a copy. Would it be impossible that someone attend their meeting, talk to them about scanning it to a website and making it available to everyone, or else soliciting donations from researchers to get another printing? It's well past time to get this done. > >Several of us who frequent this website asked about it years ago. I finally found someone willing to sell a copy of what I thought was 'the book' and bought it. I spent some money I don't have and was disappointed. Turns out there were two books and I still don't have the book which allegedly has information about my Monroe County families. I feel betrayed and used. > >Florence > > > > > >==== MSMONROE Mailing List ==== >WATCH YOUR SUBJECT LINES >Some members delete list >mail based solely upon a >subject line you've gave >one of your messages.
