Greg Green, I'm the lister that started this particular subject regarding the Mormon Memorial there in Monroe County. I didnt realize it would cause such interest! Would be most interested in seeing that picture! Turns out you and I are 'cousins'. Your James Monroe Weeks is brother to my Jeptha Weeks. Jeptha's daughter, Temperance, is first wife of my 2nd greatgrandfather, Benjamim Franklin Mathews. I descend from Ben and his 2nd wife, Mahala Whiteman. Ben, Temperance, and his brother, William, were two of the Mormon families there in Mormon Springs during the 1830's and 1840's. They left Mormon Springs in April 1846 making the trek to the Salt Lake Valley. William and his family remained in Utah, while Ben and Temperance moved on to San Bernardino, California to help establish the Mormon Community there. By the time Brigham Young recalled the Mormons to SLC in 1858, Ben had become disillusioned with the faith and stayed behind in San Bernardino becoming the first Sheriff of San Bernardino. Temperance died the following year in 1859. r/Steven Mitchell -------------- Original message -------------- From: <[email protected]> > Wayne -- if my memory serves me correct you go past the road going off to the > Blair Cemetery.
