Hi Carolyn and all, I do have information on Hiram, Thomas and the Bakers. Another of Hiram's descendents is on the list - Ann in Texas - and over the years we have compiled a fair amount, but not as much as we would like :-) I've sent some of it to the Easter website but there is more. Let me add that my line is the Nathan, Jonathan and Minor Edge line - but over the years I have collected and researched all the Edges and allied families in Monroe. Yes, Hiram died in a Confederate Hospital in TN right before Christmas in 1862. His service records show that had been ill for some time - with hospital stays from March to July to December of that year for disease. I speculate that he may have contracted malaria during the time his unit guarded Pennsacola, FL., as it is a disease that can wax and wane. I also speculate that the origins of your family story could have been partially true - in delirium he may have tried to walk home at one point and was found and returned to the hospital. The name of the hospital (Foard) was one used by the Confederacy in several states, but Hiram died in the Foard that was in Chattanooga, TN. There are Confederate hospital records for that hospital in a special collection at the University of Texas in Austin, but they can only be accessed in person so I haven't seen them yet. They might shed more light. I am in New Orleans but I hope to take a trip to Austin at some point. I will be happy to share what information I have - and am delighted to know that you are in SC. The SC Archives are fantastic. We have been doing a lot of research on the Edges in SC in hopes of connecting the MS Edges to one of the SC Edge lines. We have an EDGE DNA project going and have a donor from Hiram's brother's (Thomas) line and a test underway for an Edge donor from one of the SC lines as well as the Itawamba Edges and others. We have been trying to find a male descendent from Hiram's son, John T Edge, from his first marriage to Emmaline Land. They were in the Stuart, OK area in the 1930's. I have some pictures of Hiram's land and house that I took a few years ago on a trip to Monroe. Sadly, the house has been torn down since then. I am happy to share. It was a typical settler's dog-trot cabin which evolved into a two-story home with a full front porch that looked out over his land. Very picturesque - with a sparkling stream behind the house. I don't know how much of this is of interest to the list so please feel free to contact me off-list. However, I can say that after all these years of research - it seems that just about everybody in Monroe has a connection to everybody else :-) Robin -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Carolyn Davis Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 7:45 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MSMONROE] Edge,Todd, Rogers, Baker, Irvin, Lann Hello Mary Anna and Robin and others, I also have Edge connections. Hiram C. Edge and his wife Sarah Morrow were my GGGgrandparents. Their daughter Margaret Caroline Edge married William Bryant Todd. Their son was Columbus Walter Todd (1875-1912). Todd's wife was Margaret Marquilla (Maggie) Baker. Their daughters were Nellie Lucille Todd (1900 - 1974), my grandmother, and her sister Jessie Laverne Todd. Nellie married Hugh Otto Rogers and they had two daughters, Margaret Evelyn Roger McCracken, my mother who is nearly 82, and her older sister Mary Nell Rogers Crook who died in 1981.She was the wife of Ira Crook and they had one son, Tom Crook of Hatley, MS. Tom and his wife have three sons and one granddaughter. My father was Henry M. McCracken born in Aliceville, AL (Pickens Co.) If yall have any info on any of the above families, I would be glad to share any information that I have with you as well. I have a photo of the grave of Hiram Edge's wife. Also, I discovered that Hiram died in a TN hospital during the War Between the States. The family story was that he died on the way home from The War. He was born in 1815 in SC. I would love to know where. I live in SC. I look forward to corresponding with any other researcher as well. Hope to hear from yall soon. Yes, I agree about maternal lines - Caroline seemed to be just "out there" and left out of all the families so it will be nice to have her included. Yes, I have been at this too long :-) I think your Thomas J Edge is the son of Wood Arthur Edge, the son of Thomas Leonard Edge, son of Thomas D. Edge....who settled at Greenwood Springs with his brother Hiram Edge in the 1840's. (Thomas James Edge Born 28 Aug 1910, Poteau, OK, Died, Sept 13, 1988, probably Amory, MS.) Thomas D Edge's son, Thomas Leonard left Monroe in the 1890's. Thomas Leonard married Rosa M. Wood in Monroe before they left. One of their sons, Wood Arthur, returned to Monroe - he shows in the 1930 census. Wood had a son, Thomas J Edge and three daughters. One daughter married a Parham. I am in touch with a descendent of Thomas D Edge who lives in TX. I know she will be delighted to hear about the connection. Please let me know if you are interested in more information on the line. Robin >Robin, thanks for sharing that information! We sometimes forget the >maternal lineage is also important. My husband is an Irvin descendant (Thomas, son of Rigdon). I encountered the Edge family while working on my husband's Cummings line. Earnest F. and Trudie Addington Cummings had a daughter, Inez, born 7 May 1916. She married Thomas J. Edge. They both died here in Monroe Co. in 1988. I never knew anything about Mr. Edge's family. Do you recognize his name as being in your family? Hi Robin, You and I corresponded some time back and you were kind enough to share some EDGE information with me. Unfortunately I lost it in a move before I could properly record it. My grandmother, Leitha May EDGE EASTER was the daughter of James Madison EDGE and grand-daughter of Hiram C EDGE. I would appreciate any information/pictures you will share with me. You may remember that I have a web site on EASTERs and many other Monroe County families. http://www.easterfamily.net and I would appreciate your permission to add information you share to that web site. I can high definition scan and return any pictures you will share. Thanks, Wayne Easter -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Robin Linn Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 10:03 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MSMONROE] Edge,Todd, Rogers, Baker, Irvin, Lann Hi Carolyn and all, I do have information on Hiram, Thomas and the Bakers.
