    1. Aberdeen Examiner Newspaper - Parham Article
    2. Does anyone know if the above newspaper has papers available from 1906? I ask because my Great grandfather (Charles Parham) and one son died in Texas after a suicide attempt by train and was they were shipped to Monroe County, MS for burial and I was wondering if there was a newspaper article about it. This occurred on 11/05/06 in Texas thus article should have ran within a week of that would be my guess. Thanks for any knowledge shared...Robie

If anyone is related or if you have any books you could check, I would appreciate all help. Thanks...Robie

    1. Wm. Dyche Walton
    2. Still wondering if anyone out there has more information on William Dyche Walton and his murder trial or anything else of interest. Thank you. Age doesn't make you forgetful. Having too many things to remember makes you forgetful. If friends can accurately guess your age, get dumber friends. I like to organize my chores: things I won't do now; things I won't do later; and things I'll never do. Even doctors make mistakes. Mine asked me to undress. Some people can have all the lights on and still be in the dark. I keep hitting "escape," but I'm still here.

    3. Hi: I am looking for William and Elizabeth Smith listed on the 1850 census of Monroe County, MS. William was born in TN. Elizabeth was born in KY. They were back and forth across the state line to ALA between 1840 and 1850 as some of the boys are born in AL and some in MS. They were in Bastrop County Texas in 1860 as the last two boys were born in TX as early as 1854. 1. Re WM DYCHE WALTON
    2. WILLIAM DYCHE WALTON who lived from March 18, 1889, to DEC. 25, 1907, in Columbus and Aberdeen, MS {where he was buried}. I understand that he went on trial for murder after the Civil War, having served on the Confederate side for MS. Does anyone know this info? Supposedly there was an actual trial, after which he was found innocent. Does anyone know how I can obtain anything on this subject? Going to MS is out of the question right now for me. Any help on this would be appreciated deeply.

    1. Thanksgiving list - Haas
    2. Linda Haas Davenport
    3. I would invite my great-great grandfather, John Haas (pronounced as Hass) to dinner and I would ask him the questions I've been asking for the past 20+ years First and foremost who is the Mary Ann listed on the 1850 census? Is she your wife? Is she really Lucy? If she's not Lucy where was Lucy in 1850? Was your wife's maiden name Tubbs? My grandfather John Franklin Haas was born in 23 Mar 1849 and his brother, James was born Sep 1845. James lists his mother's name in the family Bible as Lucy and recorded her death as 27 Aug 1851. Who are your parents? All the censuses say you were born in 1810 in TN and in 1810 there were four Haas men in TN all who named at least one son John. Are you the John who was a son of Amos who sold his land in TN and then disappeared? Or are the John who lived in TN and returned to NC to sell his father's land? Did you marry in TN? Or did you marry once you arrived in MS in 1839? Where is the Methodist Church you were pastor of? Last but not least - why did you let your land in Monroe Co be taken back for taxes? If you had sold it I would have the name of your wife !!!! 1. Re: [MSMONROE] THANKSGIVING GUEST LIST CALL
    2. I would invite my husband's great grandparents, Lorenzo Dow and Martha Lucinda Ritter Lyles. I have tried for many years now to prove that her parents were Robert T. and Sarah Elizabeth McDonald Ritter. In the 1850 census for Monroe County, Robert and Sarah Elizabeth were both still single and living at home with their parents. By 1854, they had their first child, John Ritter, so I am assuming they married early 1850's. Robert passed away in December, 1869, and Sarah Elizabeth and some of the children are found living next door to his parents in Franklin Co., AL, in the 1870 census. Unfortunately, Martha Lucinda must have been staying with relatives then, for she is not listed with the rest of the family. I have been unable to find this young family anywhere in the 1860 census -- my one hope for proof; Martha Lucinda was born in February, 1860. My mother-in-law has told me that her grandmother loved her grandpa Turner. At first glance, my husband's grandmother didn't have a grandpa Turner; I have since found that after Robert's death, Sarah Elizabeth McDonald married Francis Marion Turner in 1872. Everything fits; I just can't prove it. So, that would be my question -- who are the parents of Martha Lucinda Ritter Lyles? Happy Thanksgiving to all, Linda

    1. Henry and Elizabeth Groover Wise
    2. Bonnie Gay
    3. Thanks to all who responded to my request. I am not sure if this is the right family. It could be children or grandchildren. My Henry Wise was born 1778-80 in S. C. He married Elizabeth Groover, Bulloch County, Ga. He has always been elusive. He is the only child of my Rev. War grandfather William Wise that I can't locate. I thought he left Bulloch County with his family and went to Lowdnes or Brooks County then to Ala or Miss. I thought he went with his sister Susannah Denmark(James). A Henry Wise was in the Monroe 1830 census. This Henry may have been dead by 1850. Thanks again, Bonnie

    1. THANKSGIVING GUEST LIST CALL
    2. commander
    3. Good Afternoon Monroe County Listers! A recent list I'm on had a roll call of sorts where members posted their dream list for a unique Thanksgiving Dinner. It allowed members to post the names of family members who they'd like to invite to their Thanksgiving Dinner and ask them a couple of genealogical questions. This will give everyone a chance to learn some genealogy as well as give us some insights on what roadblocks in genealogy we all may have. WITH YOUR PERMISSION I'd like to invite our Washington County list members to post their THANKSGIVING GUEST LISTS. Consider it a special ROLL CALL for Thursday, November 24th 2005. YOUR MONROE COUNTY MAILING LIST ADMINISTRATOR: Glenn Belcher P.S. If you are away from your computer and can't do so at this time, then send in your GUEST LIST whenever you can find the time to do it.

    1. Fw: [MSMONROE] Henry and Elizabeth Wise
    2. Bonnie there is a host of info on you Wise family in the 1988 Monroe County History book and in Mother Monroe (Dr. Evans). If you live within driving distance, it would be well worth your time to visit the Evans Memorial Library in Aberdeen or the library in Amory. Your Wise family was some of the earliest settles in that part of the country, and were well respected from what I can gather. I have found mention of a Wise /Mayfield connection but have not been able to tracking anything solid. Also, the Wise family was connected to the John Tucker family. Tilghman Mayfield Tucker was elected governor of Mississippi in the early 1860's (I think). http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Emsmonro2/ (My favorite) http://www.rootsweb.com/~msmonroe/index.htm These two sites might help you.
