    1. William B. Thompson family in Monroe Co. 1833 to 1845
    2. Dear Listers: I'm researching William B. Thompson b. 1804 TN and his family who were in Monroe Co from at least 1833 to about 1844.  They were listed in the 1840 census there and then moved on to Smith Co, TX. Does anyone happen to have any further information about the children that were born there: Nancy 1833, Mary 1835, William Henderson 1840, Samuel 1842 and Harriet 1844? This is for my son-in-law and his father's family. Thanking you all in advance for your help. Sincerely, Janice Connell Whidbey Island, Washington State

    1. Levi CROW b bet 1175-1794 place unknown
    2. Based on the 1820 Monroe Co, MS census, there was a Levi CROW and family living there in 1820. I was wondering if someone has any info on this person. At this time I do not know if I have ties to this family or not. I am interested in finding info out on this Levi incase he is the father to my James M. CROW born 1818, but in TN. This CROW does not show up in the 1830 census but there is a Levi CROW in Hardeman Co, TN in 1830 & 1840. Some of the siblings of James were said to have been born in MS. One was a Mary CROW who married a John NEELY. Mary died near Hardeman Co, TN and John remarried a Clarrissa HUNT. Clarrissa's father was Nathaniel HUNT and the NEELYs, a Levi M. CROW (brother to James) and James CROW all migrated to San Augustine Co, TX before and after that revolution in 1834-1836. Thanks in advance for any and all leads or info. John

    1. Parchman - Harris - Dilworth in Manroe Co. MS
    2. Bob Harris
    3. Ira, The Thomas Harris family of Monroe County MS was closely associated with the Parchman and Dilworth families there. They lived near each other, and were mentioned together in many Monroe Co. records. I have a probate from Jesse Parchman in Monroe Co. where Richland Dilworth and Thomas Harris were tasked to inventory Jesse's estate. When I was in Monroe Co in the 1850's, I took notes from the Estate of Aquilla Parchman (Folder# 248) and Henry D. Parchman (Folder # 99) looking for some connection that would explain why My Thomas Harris would have named one of his daughters Mary Parchman Harris. That daughter Married Thomas D. King (probably in Gonzales, TX) about the time that the Thomas Harris family moved from Monroe Co. MS to Gonzales Co. TX. For you info the children of my Thomas and Nancy (Alexander) Harris (All born in Monroe Co. MS.) were: Iantha G. Harris (The only Dau who married in MS and did not go to Texas with the family. She later moved to Ten with her husband William T. Booker) Elizabeth Ophilia Harris Mary Parchman Harris William Thomas Harris Archibald Alexander Harris Charles Pinckney Harris Ann Harris Elvira Harris Emily C. Harris Allen Harris George W. Howell Jr. wrote a column for the local paper in Aberdeen, Monroe Co. MS, in the 1960's called "Monroe county and her people" In it he wrote about the Parchman family in # 204/5/6 Nov 30, Dec 7 & 14, 1967. He mentions a Henry D. Parchman, and his children John, Jesse, Sarah, James M., Elizabeth, Aquilla, Peter L., Nancy, Milly and one other daughter whose name he could not find. I have copies of the last two of these columns (they are in the Aberdeen public library files) if you are interested let me know and I will copy and send them along to you. I don't know what you are looking for on the Parchman family but here is some info that I have on Parchman - King from my cousin Dorcas (changed to "the author below") She is a historian in the Gonzales Co. Texas area. I don't have any other info on the Mary Parchman (Harris) King family James Parchman and family came to Texas and settled in the Belmont area around the same time as the Thomas Harris family. (My ancestor who came about 1855 from Manroe co. MS) An old house, now gone, that was located near Belmont was usually referred to as the"King House" or Millie King's Stagecoach Inn." (I have lots more info on this house.) this land and house were purchased in 1853 by James Parchman. In the settlement of James Parchman's estate in 1858, this property was sold at public auction to James Parchman King, son of John G. and Parmelia (Parchman) King. James King deeded it to his brother, Thomas D. King and it was again sold at public auction in 1868 to Thomas Harris (my ancestor). (source of the above from Mrs. Jack Shelton of Gonzales, she was custodian of the Gonzales Museum. Also deed and probate records of Gonzales County.) This "King House" is the same on Nellie referred to as the home of Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary King, where Archie Harris (my ancestor - Thomas' son) and his family lived for about a year after their return from Beeville, Texas. The author thinks that this was the home of Thomas and Nancy Harris (my ancestors) until they died, he in 1880 and she in 1881. It then became the home of daughter Mary Parchman (Harris) King and her husband Thomas D. King. In 1904 Mary Parchman King of the village of Belmont, Gonzales County, Texas bequeaths to her granddaughters, Mary P. Harris and Nellie King her sole surviving heirs, 550 acres of this land. Mary P. Harris was a daughter of Allen Harris (son of Archie) and his wife Mary (King) Harris (dau of Tom K. King and Mary P. (Harris) King. Thomas M. and Nancy Harris named their daughter Mary Parchman Harris. There must have been a relationship between these two families???? Permelia Parchman b. Mar 1798 in Tenn. was a sister of James Parchman. Permelia married John Gladden King. This family came to Texas in 1830 as part of the Green Dewitt Colony although John Gladden King had been in Texas as early as 1812 with the Gutierrez-Magee Expedition. William Phillip King who died at the Alamo at age 16 was a son of John Gladden and Permelia King. Another son Thomas D. King married Mary P. Harris. Daughter Polly (Mary) married Robert Hall an early settler, Ranger, Indian fighter who wrote a book in 1898 "Life of Robert Hall". Hall says in his book that King had "three of the prettiest girls in Texas". Daughter Permelia married Alsey Miller a Ranger, Indian fighter and one of two who escaped from Dawson's massacre in 1842. (The author is also related to this Miller branch of the King family through her father's (Huff) line.) I am going to info Gerry Parchman on this since he put a query on the Parchmans in Monroe Co. on the Monroe Co address list recently. Gerry, if you stumble on any info on The Thomas Harris family in Monroe Co MS please pass it along. Thomas was not related to any of the other Harris families in MS in the 1830's and 40's. I have done a lot of research on them and have identified all as not connected to Thomas. Thomas come to MS from NC as a young man in the 1820's married Namcy Alexander there 16 Jul 1829, raised his family there and then moved to Gonzales Co. TX with his family in the mid 1850's I am still trying to locate Thomas in NC. Thomas is not related to Wiley Harris of Manroe Co. MS. Bob Harris 7 Ancient Bend, San Antonio, Texas 78248 (210) 492-3683 [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: Ira Harris To: Bob Harris Sent: Friday, April 21, 2006 8:30 AM Subject: Re: Mary Parchman (Harris) King Bob, I was looking at some census records and found the record for Mary Parchman (Harris) King in 1900 Gonzales County, Texas.(Mrs. M. P. King) It has her listed as a widow. When did her husband, Thomas D. King, die? Only one child is listed for her, and that child is listed as deceased. On the census, in this household is his widow and their two daughters. What was his name? His widow is listed as Mrs. T. H.? Harris. When did he die? Who did his daughters (Mary A. & Nellie) marry?

    1. seminar and places to stay
    2. Being fortunate to live within a 2 hour drive, I've stayed in Monroe Co. many times. Actually, I am fortunate enough that the kids and I stay with friends and family most of the time! However, there have been times when there was too much family to intrude on the hospitality of those we love! It was during these times that we chose the Shelaine Motel in Aberdeen ... mainly because Daddy said so in the beginning! :o) The up side is they have wonderful food!! They generally serve a great buffet at lunch and a good breakfast! My children know what to expect there so we stick to the tried and true meals of the Shelaine! You'll get a nice 'retro' establishment of the 1950's/60's motel with clean and reasonable room with a traditional and reasonably priced restaurant to go with it. What you won't get is a 5 star establishment. But who needs that in Tombigbee Country? Besides, it isn't that far from downtown and the county/court records and even closer to the library ...! which is usually my destination in Aberdeen! Of course, the older, less charming Park Inn in Amory isn't functioning at the moment ... another of Daddy's favorite haunts. The charm there was it was an old railroad hotel where the train employees stayed ... and shared bathrooms with the room next door! That was fun! Where ever one stays, they are sure to meet some wonderful people, have plenty of good food, and enjoy the experience! If anyone wants tips on additional eateries, let me know ... we have tried them all!!! :o) Gracie Mayfield Morlino *********************************************************************************** Incoming and outgoing mail scanned with Norton Corp. 3. I will be attending the NE Mississippi Heritage genealogical seminar on June 9 and 10 in Aberdeen. I have much data collected for 30 years on the early settlers of Monroe County named PARCHMAN and some on the DILWORTHS and am willing to share information, but am preparing a Parchman Family History Book to be pulished next year, so some is still private. PARCHMANS also spread out to Lee, Chickasaw, Pontotoc, and Clay Counties, and some even across the line into Alabama, with most families moving to Texas after the Civil War. I am also interested in any information on DREWRYS and DERRYBERRYS from the Corinth area. I would appreciate any suggestions about local motels in the Aberdeen area for Thursday (June 8) and Friday (June 9). Gerry Parchman Riverton, New Jersey
