I just received a copy of Zoe's death certificate. She died 9 Nov 1912 in Monroe Co., MS, Vot. Pct. Parham Store. The certificate was not signed by a physician, which I found unusual and that cause of death was consumption or pellagra. Also, that she was buried at Pierce Chapel. I am looking for a descendant of hers. She had the following children: Robert "Robbie" N., probably named for her father, Robert Nelson, Ruffin Porter, who married Oma Mae Lewis (this is my line), Nathaniel M., Jr., who never married, Eula, who I believe married Tom Gilliam, Edna, married Walt Faulkner, Ophelia Mae, married Bannie Francis and Fannie, married Marshall Cox. Zoe's husband, Nathaniel "Bud" was killed my one of his nephew's, his sister Susan Stockton Glenn's son, sometime between the 1900 and 1910 MS census. I would like to know when he died and where he is buried. I hope someone knows of this family. Many thanks, Anne Stockton O'Neal
I am a descendant of Livingston Perry EDWARDS, through his son G. W. EDWARDS, who married my great grandmother, Rosa CAMP. Would love to make contact and share information about these families. Oh how cool. I will email you privately. Archie and Etta actually had 12 children not just Robert Hezekiah, my grandfather. The family story goes that she introduced her 1st two, Richard Douglas and Rossie Lee, as "her family"... then she had 10 more! I can't wait! Connie - It's William Jefferson Taylor - have no Benjamin Taylor in my database. I show John M. Taylor (son of W. J. & Rebecca Osborn) married Susan Kirkpatrick and I show children: Anice, Nettie D., Etta V. (M. Archie Lee Bellows with one son Robert H. Bellows), and Reginald. Also, W. J. Taylor named one son W. J., Jr. and he, in turn, named a son W. J. Taylor, III, so I feel comfortable that the correct name is William Jefferson Taylor. I'll be happy to send you copies of my material (via snail mail) if you're interested in exchanging info. You can e-mail me off list. Also have copy of W. J. Taylor's will where he mentions son John M. Bill At 12:05 AM 3/23/2007, you wrote: >So, is it William or Benjamin or both? Connie - Your post regarding Taylors in Monroe Co. MS mentioning Benjamin [William} Jefferson Taylor & Rebecca Osborn was interesting. They are my maternal ancestors. Wm. Jefferson & Rebecca had a son Wm. J. Taylor, Jr. who married Virginia Emaline Butler. Their daughter, Myra Virginia Taylor married my grandfather William Lewis Flynt. Let's you, & other Taylor descendants, talk. Bit late tonight :-) Bill Researching: Taylors, Flynt, Butler, Andrews, Nabers (SC to MS)
So, is it William or Benjamin or both? Do you show John Maryland Taylor as a part of this family? What I KNOW is that my great grandmother, Etta Victoria TAYLOR(b. 23 Aug 1879 in Monroe Co, MS d. 26 Jan. 1968 in Sherman, Grayson co. TX although she lived all of my life in Ector, Fannin Co., TX), is the daughter of John Maryland TAYLOR (b. 26 Feb 1854 in either MS or SC d. Sept 1904 in Fannin co., TX)and Susan Annabelle Kirkpatrick (b. 17 Mar 1856 in Monroe Co. MS d 1908 Fannin Co. TX). John M. TAYLOR and Susan are buried at Carson Cemetery just north of Ector, Fannin Co. TX. John's place of birth listed as SC in the 1930 census of Etta Victoria BELLOWS in Collin Co, TX. It is listed as SC in 1880 census Athens, Monroe Co, MS. He may be in the 1850 United States Federal Census > South Carolina > Laurens > Laurens. This causes a problem with the birthdate unless they lost a son named John and renamed a child that name this one would be a twin for Mary Jane 1860 United States Federal Census > Mississippi > Monroe > Eastern Division Aberdeen PO 1870 United States Federal Census > Mississippi > Monroe > Township 14 Smithville PO 1880 United States Federal Census > Mississippi > Monroe > Athens > District 127 listed as JM 1900 United States Federal Census > Texas > Fannin > Justice Precinct 2 > 64 Family lore indicates that John M. Also, these people are said to be Cherokee which is plausible coming out of SC. into MS. Family lore also says that in the enumeration and land distribution that took place in OK, my great grandfather tried to get his mother in law, Susan Anabelle Kirkpatrick Taylor to get on the rolls and get her land. She would not. Rebecca Osborn has been of some interest. I corresponded with a distant cousin who spelled the name Orsban. Johnston, Jr. Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2007 5:25 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MSMONROE] Cemetery lookup of a CSA soldier in Aberdeen Dear List Members, I am new to Monroe County research and am not familiar with resources available for this county. I have been told, and confirmed through regimental histories, that one of my ancestors, James N. Phillips, a confederate soldier in Co. D, 26th/50th Alabama Infantry Regiment, was wounded and sick at a hospital in Columbus or Enterprise, MS, in June, 1862 and is said to have died at Aberdeen, MS of these wounds and sickness on May 18, 1862 and is buried there in Aberdeen in a marked grave. Is there a cemetery survey published of the older cemeteries in and around Aberdeen to see if his grave and tombstone can be found? I would like to know where he is buried and what, if any, dates and information can be found on his marker. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert C.
