That's the sisters. Or two of them anyway. There were 11 children in all, I believe. Speaking from memory right now, not looking at the facts. Homer as one of the oldest, if not the oldest. Susie was next to the baby. Years and years later, Homer's grandson married Susie's grand-daughter! They had been married for more than 20 years and had four children before they discovered it! They joined a genealogy class in Miami, FL. The instructor told them to write down everything they knew about their respective families, and low and behold! There it was! She says all their kids are fine! Thanks for your time of looking things up. I really appreciate your help. Susan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I don't know why more than one of those messages I sent showed up on the list but wanted to send one more to see if it did the same thing. Glenda
Thanks you very much for looking. Annie was Homer's mother. Since his wife died about the same time that his mother did, I was hoping that they would be in the same cemetery, but apparently are not. Of course I know she could be there in an unmarked grave, since a good many of the Goodson family is buried there. You don't recognize them because they are sisters to Homer and have different last names. I am hoping that someone might pick up on the Davis name and maybe find some info there. I know half the world claims to be Native American, but family lore has it that Lonie was an Indian, and that is the reason she, nor the daughters that she had ( Ethel and Mary) are ever included in any Goodson history. Is there perhaps a Native American cemetery in the area? I haven't thought of that before. Thanks again for looking, Susan ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
These are only two references to Goodson in our history book: William Columbus "Lummie" Jackson married Susie Goodson. Their son was L.D. Goodson. Cleveland "Cleve" Waycaster married Alma Goodson. (These facts are included in articles about the Jackson and Waycaster families.) I've never heard of a Native American Cemetery in this area. On the subject of cemeteries in Splunge, MS, I would like to know if anyone who has access to these cemeteries or an index of the graves there knows of a grave for Leona "Lonie" Davis Goodson, wife of Homer D. Goodson. They were on the 1910 census in Splunge with their daughter Ethel. Searching for her grave and also her ancestry. On that 1910 census, Tom Davis and his wife are living in the same house with Homer and Lonie. Believe Tom to be Lonie's brother. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Susan Hughes ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Susan, I don't find Leona "Lonie" Davis Goodson in the index of cemeteries. I do find: Allison Goodson (10 Nov 1897-22 July 1908)at Pleasant Grove and Annie (wife of J.F. Goodson) (11 Jan 1861-21 May 1911) at Lann Cemetery. Ann, Terry, et al, the "Welcome To Mississippi" Sign Terry is speaking of is in front of my gr, gr grandparent's old home place which is considered to be in Splunge. There is also a cemetery on the property there where John Kirk Byrd and his wife, Elvira Carolyn Moore Byrd are buried. I think it's called the George Stanford Cemetery because he is the one who purchased the property from the Byrds. There are a few other graves there but I don't remember who they were. It is probably in the Monroe Co. MS Cemetery Book. Some of the graves, including John Kirk Byrd's grave, have been covered over with dirt where a farmer was plowing the field next to it and pushed the dirt over on some of them. Some people who see Elvira's tombstone think it is John Kirk Byrd because it has her name and then "wife of John Kirk Byrd" but "wife of" is very difficult to read and his name stands out but it is her. A few years ago that property belonged to some Clarks or Knights, but I don't remember for sure. John Kirk Byrd's father, Thomas T. Byrd lived on down the road in Detroit where several of his children were born. Glenda McWhirter Todd > Today's Topics: > > 1. Re: Splunge, MS (William T. Anne, Several years ago a "Welcome to Splunge" sign was placed west of Weaver's Creek on the Hatley-Detroit Rd. If one considers that spot to be the western-most reaches of "Greater" Splunge, then Stockton Cemetery and Smith Cemetery would both be counted as Splunge cemeteries. I personally consider Crenshaw Cemetery to be another of the Splunge graveyards (although I'm sure some of the folks in Greenwood Springs considers it theirs). And as you travel east and northeast of Splunge, there are numerous other cemeteries that probably would be included as within the "Greater Splunge" area. But Greg is 100% correct --- it depends on what is considered Splunge! Good luck. I guess it is dependent on what you consider Splunge. In Splunge proper -- it would be only the one grave at the old school. On the other hand the Lann Cemetery is only a few miles away, so I would think it would be close enough to count as Splunge. Greg > > From: "Anne S. How many cemeteries are in Splunge, MS and what are they named? Many thanks, Anne Stockton O'Neal [email protected]
I believe that Pickle Funeral Home in Amory owns that funeral home now. You might try contacting Pickle Funeral located in Smithville.
