    3. Hello, Cousin! Jeremiah was a brother to my husband's ancestor, Johathan, who died young, leaving two sons, one of whom followed his Uncle Jeremiah to MS. This was the first family my husband and I started working on together ~33 years ago. We could easily find information on Jeremiah, but James V. was elusive. We concluded a poor man makes few tracks in history. We haven't actively worked on this family in many years. Good to hear from you, Mary Anna ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 03, 2007 9:42 PM Subject: Re: [MSMONROE] Looking for Marriage about 1825-30 > Mary Ann, > > I may be from the same Riggan family as your husband. > > James Andrew Harris married Mary Elizabeth Riggan in 1859. 3. Mona, you find it spelled several different ways, but mostly Riggan(s) and Riggin(s). I never discount Reagan or Regan. My husband's family came from Warren Co., NC by 1816/1817 and settled in/around the Splunge area. Today is Decoration Day at Bethleham Cemetery (NE Monroe), so we went yesterday to put flowers on our ancestors' graves. As I was making my way, I noticed a row (side by side) of small new stones.......~8"X8" with only names: Perry Majors, Helon Majors, Hawkins Majors, and Cora Majors. The flowers were new and evidently had been put on since the rain Friday...they were still bright and clean. I'm pretty safe in saying these stones were not there last year. 3. Mary Anna: Phillis and I have corresponded this week. We're working on this together. Actually, my MAJORS ancestors were close neighbors, and probably friends with the RIGGAN family. I'm looking for the marriage of Osborn Majors to Nancy, and have wondered if perhaps Nancy was a RIGGAN. Osborn married Nancy in about 1828-29, probably in Monroe County, but marriages from that early date are hard to find. Do you know if any books or other records have been published and/or indexed for Monroe County? 3. Hi Mona, I don't have the marriage record you are looking for but I do have a photocopy of a document concerning Ausborn Majors that also mentions my ancestor Nathan Edge. I can scan it and send it to you via email if you like. Ausborn and Nathan were next neighbors circa 1849-69 up near Riggan. I also have plotted the early landowners who lived in the sections around the Edge and Majors land on a currant map. The map covers sections 1-24 of Twp 12S, Range 17W and sections 3 through 21 of Twp 12S, R 16W. Except for my Edge people, the plat map I made only reflects the early land transactions from the GLO land records. I have the private land transactions from the Chancery in Aberdeen for my people, but not for anyone else. But, that said, it gives you a good idea of who was where in the area. Robin
