Their was a very prominent man in Moore County, NC in the early to mid 1800's named Atlas Jones. I don't know how common the name Atlas Is, but in and around Moore and Montgomery counties in North Carolina there are many Atlas Jones <insert surname here>. It's kind of like all the Wade Hampton Smiths, Wade Hampton Jones, etc. you find in the south after the War Between the States. In later court documents in Moore County I found where my Atlas Jones Martin's grandmother or aunt SUED atlas Jones - they were once close friends. Oh well, hope this vague answer helps some.
