Leroy, you asked for address to Marshall County MS courthouse where the probate records are contained. There are two books in circulation which contain the probate records for Marshall County MS. If you do an Internet search, you'll find the titles for both; however, one is titled something like "missing probate records for Marshall County ..." (I am looking for that book myself through inter-library loan). I've written to the Marshall County courthouse for copies of probate records and was unsuccessful in obtaining anything -- I don't know if they just don't have access to the records, or if they don't have the staff to fulfill genealogical research requests (even if you have the precise page number and locator information for each will/probate document). If I find the exact title of the books, I'll post them to this message board. Good luck to you ... Deborah
I have also had trouble getting a marriage record from the Marshall County Courthouse. I am happy to report now, due to a very kind friend I now have that document in my possession. I had sent twice for that marriage record and was told twice it did not exist. The second time I even had the date of the marriage. sterrell ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 9:09 PM Subject: [MSMARSHA-L] Probate Records > Leroy, you asked for address to Marshall County MS courthouse where the > probate records are contained. Hi all! Several years ago I visited Marshall Co., MS and the records are a mess there. The probate packets are in floor to ceiling drawers and the people who come to research sometimes can't find them because most researchers didn't put them back in the proper drawer. Some but not all are mixed up. I think there is not enough staff to do the searches. It's best to hire someone there to help or go your self. I am looking for any connection to my ELIJAH BUSBY born 1815-1820 in SC. Some of his children in later census' listed him as being from Alabama so I feel that he must have been there in his earlier years. He married Susan Ellis, daughter of Thomas Ellis, in MARSHALL COUNTY, MS in 1859 and had the following children in Marshall County: L. M. Busby (male) b. abt. 1861 Henrietta E. Busby b. abt 1862, married Jeff Forrester Elijah (Jack) Sumter Busby b. abt 1864, never married Benjamin Franklin Busby b. abt 1866, married Della Aiken? Mathew Newton Busby b. 2/22/1868, married Maggie Lou Noe S. I. Busby (female) b abt 2/1870 Mary Jane Busby b. 7/24, married Walter Macklin Jowers H. H. Busby (male) b. abt 1874 Annie B. Busby b 11/8/1875, married George Thompson L. H. Busby (male) b. abt 1878 Most, if not all, later moved to Memphis, TN. The only known connection that I have made is to LAWRENCE P. BUSBY who was a cousin and he was listed as being born in Louisiana, his parents (unknown) born in Alabama. He had sons named: Lawrence P. Busby Allison Busby and Richard C. Busby. They were all listed in the census in Memphis. I think, but can not prove, that my Elijah was the son of Elijah Busby who died in Madison County, AL in 1843. There are some name similarities from that family. Does anyone have any info on these Busby's or any other Busby's from MARSHALL COUNTY, MS? I have been stuck for so long! Thanks for any help. Tina
