Probate records generally give the name of the deceased person, names and relationships of heirs, places of residence, etc. They also include records of guardianships of minor children, widow's dowers and inventory records. Inventory records include ownership of slaves, often giving names and occasionally ages and relationships of slaves. Due to the large number of slave listings, two indexes were necessary, one for each race.
