I believe the John Lewis NEWSOM you mention is the same as my ggg-grandfather, Lewis NEWSOM/NEWSOME who was first married to Nancy CLARK. They appear in the Marshall Co., MS 1850 census with 8 children. By 1860, Nancy has apparently died and Lewis is living in Marshall Co. with 9 children. I have found a marriage record of Lewis NEWSOM to Mary Jane KIRKLAND on 16 Sep 1861 in Marshall County. They appear in both the 1870 & 1880 census records in Marshall County, with more children.
