Surnames: Arnold, Polk Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HKB.2ACI/2024 Message Board Post: I am seeking information:t Mary Ellen Polk, b. Dec 1825, TN. She married Joseph Richard Arnold about ca1844, but not sure where. Their first child was born in Scott Co., Arkansas. JR was shown on the 1840 Scott Co., Arkansas census living in his father's home there. His brother Levi Arnold was however living in DeSoto Co., MS Mary Ellen died as a result of childbirth in 1864 in Bosque Co., Texas. Mary Ellen's father is rumored to possibly be a William Polk, related to President Polk. Seeking information on the following family found on census: William Polk on the 1840 Census for Mississippi, Marshall County, Southern Division William Polk > 1 M 5-10 > 1 M 10-15 > 1 M 40-50 > > 2 F 15-20 > 1 F 40-50 > > There are several records reflecting that President Polk and his family lived in this area during this time period. Anyone know if this family on census is related to my Mary Ellen Polk. I would appreciate any help on this branch of the family's "brickwall". Debra Tranthem allmyleaves@yahoo.com

Both locations for the cemetery are close to each other, and you should get to them just before you get to highway 309, which would go north to Byhalia. I haven't been there, but one might be abandoned. On the GNIS maps, they seem to be close to a creek, and on the south side of Highway 4. A GPS receiver would get you to within 15 feet of the correct spot. I once found the Bethlehem cemetery in Benton county only because the GPS receiver guided me. I would not have been able to find it otherwise, map or no map. Have a good trip.

Can you tell me which HWY it is off of? I am taking a trip to MS next weekend and I thought if it's close to some of the other locations that we're visiting that we may drive over to where ever this is. I am not familiar with this area at all and I know that these are probably really back roads. The maps that these USGenweb sites offer are not mapquest.com quality.

You will find two of them, both Marshall county, and you can have it draw you a map to help you find them. Plus, you have the latitude and longitude for each. If you have a GPS receiver, you can plug in those coordinates and the receiver will take you right to the locations. I bought my GPS receiver mostly for hunting old cemeteries, and it works fine.
