Her husband Hugh Hope Allison died in MS in 1841. One researcher thought she was listed in a tax list here but I can't find it or in the census. We think she moved to Texas about 1850 with father Frederick Edwin Becton. Any help out there? They were presbyterians and Hugh could have been buried in a church cemetery but can't find him on anything listed on line in Marshall county. Five of their children also died in 1844.
Hi, My great grandfather, Alexander G. Cook married Elizabeth Jane Johnson in Marshall Co., MS in 1858. His mother had died prior to the 1850 MS Tippah Co. census and he and his father Hiram Cook were living in the household of Samuel and Mary "Polly" Johnson. My only info was from my mother who always indicated that Alex was reared by his aunt "Polly" Johnson. I do know that Elizabeth Jane Johnson was the daughter of Asceneth R. Myhand and William B. Johnson who were married in Talbot Co., GA in 1837. Wm. B. Johnson had died before 1850 and Elizabeth J. was living in Tippah Co. with her mother, her 4 siblings and her grandfather William. Myhand. All of the families lived around Cornersville. I know very little about the Johnson or Cook family. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows anything about these families. Alexander Cook and Elizabeth Johnson had one son Will S. Cook who lived and reared his family near Cornersville. In the 1920 Marshall County MS census there is the following family: Greene, Edwin C., head, m, w, 55, married, b. Wisconsin, parents both born in MS Greene, Gene (see info below about this name), wife, f, w, 47, married, b. MS, parents MS, MS Greene, Edwin, son, m, w, 25, single, b. MS, father WI, mother MS, farmer Greene, Inez, daughter, f, w, 23, single, b. MS, WI, MS, teacher Greene, Mary Grace (not sure about "Grace"), daughter, f,w,17, single, b. MS, WI, MS, none In 1930 census, Marshall Co, MS, there is an Edwin E. GRUNE (according to index), b abt 1896, b. MS, but when you read the actual census, it is Edwin E. GREENE. His age is 34 at last birthday. His wife is Lilla M., and son is Eugene, age 7 at last birthday. This age of 34 for Edwin E. works with the June 1895 birthdate which follows because the census was taken in April 1930, before his 35th birthday. In the Marshall County MS cemetery index book in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs, there is a Edwin E. Greene, June 29 1895 - June 1, 1957. In same plot is Lilla Mae Matthews Greene, wife of Edwin E. Greene, Jan. 15, 1900 - June 6, 1959. There are Matthews in the same plot, whom I'm guessing are Lilla's parents. Also in this book in Hillcrest Cemetery, in the Anderson plot are the following: Greene, Erwin C., April 14, 1864 - March 25, 1927 (I believe the actual stone says Edwin C., but I can't find my family notes at the moment to confirm this.) Greene, Annie Eugenia Anderson, wife of E. C. Greene, June 29, 1871 - April 21, 1951. If this is your Greene family, I can help you with Edwin E.'s maternal grandmother's line - on both sides (Annie Eugenia Anderson Greene's parents). Edwin C.'s wife was Annie Eugenia Anderson ("Gene" for Eugenia in the 1920 census at beginning of this message), the daughter of William Franklin Anderson and Jeanette B. Hastings. Both this Anderson line and Hastings line are mine, and I can take them some distance back to Maryland (Anderson), and to Scotland (Hastings). Hope this works out to be your Edwin E. Greene family. Let me know, please. Delores delgen@mchsi.com I am 99.9% certain that this Edwin C.
