This is the only clue I have found regarding my 2nd great-grandmother's schooling. Her parents died in 1847 in Panola Co, and she moved to Lafayette Co to live with her guardian at some point. Her name was Sarah Jane D Harris and she married Thomas B Allen in Lafayette Co in 1853.
Clayton, I too, research Dicia Jones. She is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetary in Marshall County, MS. She was living in Haywood County, TN in the 1830's, then moved on to Marshall County, MS. I am interested any info you may have, I just started researching her. Eli also is buried at the same cemetary. I am still awaiting info from Nolan, but haven't received yet. I will be moving back to Memphis in October. It is only about 20 minutes from Memphis to there, if you need anything let me know. I plan to clear the cemetary (it is in bad shape). Have to wait until winter to go in there for fear of snakes. I have pictures of the inside of the cemetary when I was looking for her daughter, Amerniah. Didn't know at the time that Dicia was her mother and Eli her father. Pat Liggett

I have spent many years researching the Mann and Holt and allied families that lived in North Carolina in Chatham and Wake Counties in the late 1700s and the 1800s. I'm very glad someone knows about Dicey. No one here knew what became of her and knows little about her. She married Eli in January 1810, showed up on the Chatham County census on the same page as two of her brothers in 1820, then she disappeared. Did she and Eli move to Tennessee in the 1820s? I am very familiar with Dicey's older brothers George A. Holt and Richard Holt. She also had an older brother named John. I am a descendant of George A. Holt. One of George's granddaughters, Rebecca Catherine Holt, is my great-grandmother. She married Lindsay Sanders Mann in 1878. I have much information on the Holt family I would glad to share if you are interested. Can you tell me when Dicey (Dicia) died and where she is buried? It was in the 1850s, correct? Apparently before 1858 as it appears Eli remarried to an Anna Pain. And do you know when Dicey was born? I have circa 1787 in Johnston County, NC. Was her given name Dicia or Dicea or what? And did she have a middle name? Anything you can tell me will be much appreciated. Clayton Mann Burlington, NC

He was born in NC in 1795, but moved his family to Marshall County, MS ca 1840/1850. We don't know what happened to him. It seems he fell off the face of the earth ca 1856. The only event that I know of that happened in 1856 was that his daughter, Anne, had a son in 1856 named William Barlow. Most of his children are buried in Bethlehem Cemetery, but Sarah Biggs Barlow, his wife, is buried in Tula Cemetery. If anyone has any information on what happened to James B. Barlow, please write me. Thank you! Kem Barlow
Why don't you send the picture to the administrator for posting on the Marshall County web site? Perhaps someone might see it there and be able to identify the photo.

Bird, sorry I can't help on the Miller family geneology. I am only trying to find an ancestor who might have some old photo's of James Miller, wife Rebecca, listed on the 1850 and l860 census in Marshall Co. MS. I am no relation to the Millers but own a confederate soldier photo of James in the 3rd MS. Cav. and want to try to positively identify it. I know he was born in SC and had other male millers living around him on the census which I assume are relatives. David
