    3. Thanks so much for checking. I keep coming across John D. Martin in my searches and he lived near my Martin cousins. Sometimes I wonder if my John B. Martin's handwriting caused people to think his middle initial was D. I have another ancestor named Thomas Godfrey Burfitt, but everything I've come across lists him as Thomas J. Burfitt - I've seen his signature and his "G" does look like a "J." Again, thanks for checking for me. 1. [MSMARSHA-L] Presbyterianism in Marshall County Mississippi
    2. Paul & Fredreica Speyer
    3. Does anyone have a copy of "Shadow of a Mighty Rock: A Social and Cultural History of Presbyterianism in Marshall County Mississippi," by Rev. Dr. Robert Milton Winter?, In the book Rev. Dr. Robert Milton Winter shares the history of Presbyterianism in northern MS, touching on influences and endeavors of many people and institutions in surrounding areas. I am looking for any information on the life of my ancestor, John Bethune Martin. His mother was Flora Bethune and her brother (his uncle) was John Bethune who was a Presbyterian minister. John Bethune was a Chaplain for the Loyalists troops during the Revolutionary War. He was run out of America and settled in Canada. John Bethune Martin's parents were from Isle of Skye, Scotland. I'm assuming he would have been Presbyterian. His wife was Nancy Hill Harris and their children were Atlas Jones Martin, Alexander Farquar Martin, Arthur Harris Martin, Mary Bethune Martin and Margaret Harris Martin. Any reference to any of these family members would be a great lead. Thanks for your help! Fredreica

    2. Paul & Fredreica Speyer
    3. Can someone please do a look-up in "Settlers of Shelby County, TN," and adjoining counties (includes Marshall and DeSoto Counties), Bernice Taylor Cargill and Brenda Bethea Connelly, editors, published 1989? I am looking for any information on my ancestor, John Bethune Martin, who removed from Montgomery County, NC. to Holly Springs, Marshall County, MS by 1848. However, later census records for his daughters list their places of birth as TN. One daughter, Mary Bethune Martin, married Robert Dortch and they lived near Bayou Disard in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, LA. Her second husband, James Lamme Meigs was from TN. Her sister, Margaret Harris Martin, married General Jesse Johnson Finley of TN. They later settled in Florida. John Bethune Martin's wife was Nancy Hill Harris, daughter of Arthur Harris and Mary Myrick. I believe some of her Harris family settled around Memphis. Thanks for your help! Fredreica

    2. Paul & Fredreica Speyer
    3. Does anyone have access to "Marshall County, MS Wills and Probate Records," by Betty Whitshire, Pioneer Press? If so, could some kind soul see if there is a John Martin listed? His wife, Nancy Harris Martin, died in 1844 or 1846. She may have had a will. His full name was John Bethune Martin and he died after 1848. His son, Alexander Farquar, died as a captain during the War Between the States. I'm not sure when his son, Arthur Harris Martin died. Before moving to Mississippi, J.B. Martin was Clerk of Courts for Montgomery Co., NC. I believe he was a lawyer. He was a farmer in Holly Springs, MS. Thanks so much for any help.
