I suppose that the one set of Alexanders and Pryors owned the other set. My ancestors were slave-owners -- sad, but undeniable. There is a Ms. French-Green at [email protected] who is researching the Alexanders and Peels. She may have some information for you.

I think they moved into the area from AL, sometime after 1870. The 1900 cenus says my ggrandfather was born in AL. My ggrandfather was Henry Lonzo Hood b. April 11 1870. My ggrandmother is buried in Marshall Co, I am interested in finding out where, her name was Rosa Ford Hood. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Linda

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HKB.2ACI/573.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Joy, Yesterday was really my first day out starting to track folks. What I found was C.L. Barnard (age 40, b. VI), Lucy E.(age 29 b. MS),Annie C. (age 2, b.TN), & Robert (age 9, b.MS) on the 1870 census for Marshall County, MS. If I remember right, I looked on the 1880 or 1890 census and got confused because instead of Robert they had what appeared to be a "B" for an initial, but Charles and Lucy were there. I looked at the 1880/1890 first then went back to the 1870 thinking that the Charles and Lucy were not the ones. Now I'm thinking they were and it was either written wrong or the R was just real fancy and the leg curled under making it look like a B. I'll have to go back and recheck to see if ages and everything else matches. As far as burials. No, nothing yet. I know that the son of C.L. & Lucy was buried at Elmwood...found them. Looked for C.L. and Lucy there in the register and did not find. According to my Grandfathers notes and the legal papers you sent me, it ! appears they had moved from Byhalia (Marshall Co) to Memphis area when Robert was a child. So, I'll do some additional research on cemetaries in Memphis. I also checked the newspaper for Obituaries hoping to find where he was laid to rest but had no luck. I could have missed it so, I'll probably double back & check again. At the same time, I'll look for the Weavers. I had the same thought that where one is, maybe the others are. Thanks again for your info. Paul

Look in Smith County TN for marriage to Charles Barnard, between 1850-1860. Eliza was a sister of Casey Young, who was a US Rep. from TN and not a Rep. from MS. Their mother was Rachael Maroney, dau. of Rev. Soldier Capt. Philip Maroney. Philip's widow is buried at Warsaw/Watkins/Ingram Cemetery south of Byhalia. Eliza dead by 1860/61.

I have never been able to trace them to learn where they died or were buried, except for Lucy's brother Corporal R. H. Weaver. If you know where Charles L. Barnard died and was buried, perhaps Lucy also died there and was buried beside him. Have you found your Youngs and Barnards living in Shelby Co., TN in the 1860 census? If so, it seems Shelby Co. would have a marriage record for Miss Young and Charles L. Barnard probably sometime between 1855 and 1860.

I agree they are linked but I believe the Yarbroughs includes Charles, Seth G. [his mother may have been a Davis] and Richmond W. The only connections I have on Richmond is when he went back to Marshall Co. he had to have family there to take care of his to small children while he was in the Civil War and everywhere Seth went Richmond or his son followed. Seth settled in St. Francis Co., AR and my dad was born and raised within a few miles of Seth. Dad had a brother that died as a child and he is buried in the Yarbrough Cemetery on Seth's property. At least now I know there are four of us working on the Marshall Co. Yarbroughs & related families.

As I continue to research this here in Memphis (I live here), if I find any additional information on the Weavers (whether connected to my Charles Barnard or not) I'll relay the information to you. I'll research the Weaver side of it for sure assuming for right now that there is a definate connection. I do agree with you , that it would appear that it is the right Charles and that Lucy was a second wife or I suppose it would be possible she may have been the first. All I know from my Grandfathers records was that Hiram Casey Young was a brother to Miss Young and Robert Edgar (son to Charles) served as secretary to him in the between 1874-1882. Miss Young was either his real Mom or a step-Mom, don't know. Thanks again and if you find additional info such as Lucys date of death or place of burial, please let me know. Paul

It goes something like this: Pryor was the father of Martha Elizabeth Pryor who married Adam Rankin Alexander's son James Henry. Martha's mother died and Green then married Jane Maria Alexander, James Henry's sister. By her he had several children, among them the Sam H. you mentioned. This has created a double line in the family tree making it look more like kudzu. I used this particular group of ancestors to test genealogical programs to see which could best diagram what happens when a man marries his son-in-law's sister. I think Sam ends up being his own uncle . . .

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HKB.2ACI/573.1.1 Message Board Post: Paul, I strongly suspect your Charles L. Barnard was first married to a Miss Young before he married Lucy Elizabeth Weaver. The second marriage is on record in Marshall Co., MS. I do not have a birth date for Lucy. The following is directly quoted from Franklin Co., TN Loose Court Records, Box 1860-1869, Folder #1860-1111: Thos. Finch Admr. & c vs. Lucy E. Weaver et. al. In the Chancery Court of Franklin County, State of Tenn. The joint and separate answer Lucy E. Barnard, (formerly Lucy E. Weaver) and her husband Chas. L. Barnard to the Bill of Thos. Finch Administrator with the will annexed of Richard Sharp dec'd. filed in this Court against said Lucy E. & others. The said Chas. L. Barnard answering says that of his own personal knowledge he knows nothing of the statements and allegations in the said Bill contained, and can neither admit nor deny them, and says that he is not interested in the subject matter of this suit, except as the husband of the said Lucy E. to whom he was lawfully married before the filing of the Bill herein and with whom he is still living in lawful wedlock. Respondent Lucy E. answering says that she knows nothing of Complainant's having settled the estate of her Grand-father Richard Sharp Sr. deceased, as to the other heirs and legatees. She states that since Complt. entered upon the administration of said estate (except a short time in the summer & fall of the year 1861) she has been absent a long distance from Complt. residing, until about February 1867, in the northwestern part of the State of Mississippi, and since that time in Shelby County State of Tennessee, where she now resides, near the city of Memphis.......... ..........Mrs. Lucy E. Barnard, one of the Respondents makes oath that the statements contained in the foregoing answer made of her own knowledge are true, and those made upon information of others she believes to be true. Sworn to and subscribed to before me this the 19 day of November 1867. A. Alston C & M By R. J. Black D C & M Chancery Court of Memphis, Tenn. Lucy's signature is on this page, as well. I research all Weavers in Franklin Co., TN and am trying to find the parents of Lucy's father D. Thomas Weaver. D. Thomas Weaver was married to Amelia Ann Sharp, who was deceased by 1861. I would like to know if D. Thomas Weaver was listed in the 1870 Shelby Co., TN census or the 1870 Marshall Co., MS census. Lucy's siblings named in the estate records were Emily Jane Weaver, James Richard Weaver, John Gregory Weaver, and Robert Houston Weaver. This last brother I believe to be the Corp. R. H. Weaver 1845-1891 Co. H 8th Mississippi Cav. CSA buried in the Stephenson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Shelby Co., TN. I will quote from one final document found in Franklin Co., TN Deed Book 2, page 462: We Robert H. Weaver of Shelby County Tennessee, Lucy E. Barnard wife of C. L. Barnard and Amelia A. Weaver both of Memphis, Tennessee, all children and heirs at law of D. T. Weaver, do hereby nominate and appoint Thomas G. Scarbrough of said City of Memphis our true and lawful attorney in fact, and he is hereby authorized, impowered and directed for us severally and in our our names to collect and settle generally our several interests right and claims in and to the Estate of Richard Sharp deceased, and [left blank] Sharp deceased who formerly resided and died in or near the town of Winchester, in Franklin County Tennessee............ ........In witness whereof we have each hereunto set our hands and seals this the 28th day of August 1867. R. H. Weaver {Seal} Lucy E. Barnard {Seal} C. L. Barnard {Seal} Amelia A. Weaver {Seal} Richard Sharp, Sr. (1777-1850) and his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Corn Sharp (1780-1857) are buried in Sharp Cemetery near Winchester, Franklin Co., TN. You might also check Chancery Court records in Shelby Co., TN for some mention of this case.

My Great Great Grandfather was a Charles L. Barnard according to my Grandfathers research. He was originally from Virginia. He also had that Charles L. Barnard and his wife had a son, Robert Edgar Barnard (my Great Grandfather), in Byhalia, Mississippi on Jun 13, 1861. Robert Edgar moved with his parents to Memphis when he was young. Robert Edgar was an attorney, secretary to Congressman Hiram Casey Young (D-MS) in Washington DC, a Squire for Shelby County. He married Cora Minnette Erion Feb 27, 1884. They had 8 children. Bessie Duvall Barnard, Robert Edgar Barnard Jr., Charles H. Barnard, Casey Barnard, Earl Barnard, Leila Barnard, Ray Barnard and my Grandfather Paul Leslie Barnard. Robert E. Jr, & Charles H. were twins that died at birth, Casey died at age 2, Bessie at age 12. Robert Edgar (Sr) died Feb 25, 1913 and was buried at Elmwood Cemetary, Memphis along with his wife Cora who died Dec 7, 1943. Here's where I need help. The 1870 census of Marshall County, MS (Byhalia) shows a C.L. Barnard age 40, Farmer living with Lucy E., age 29, Annie C, age 2, Albert age 16?or 10, and Robert age 9. Robert matches the age my Great Grandfather would have been and the location fits. If the Lucy E. fits with your Weavers then we possibly have a match. Where I am somewhat confused is according to my Grandfathers records, Charles L. Barnards wife's maiden name was Young and was the sister of Congressman Hiram Casey Young. Are there any Youngs in your lineage where maybe it was a half sister, or other relation? Let me know what you know please. Thanks, Paul
