When I found Wesley's marriage to Mary Josephine Hicks, I assumed - incorrectly - that Hicks was her maiden name. Wesley P. Baughman and Caleb Newton Hicks served together in the Confederacy. The marriage records of MS do show her name as Mary Josephine Hicks, I believe. Or her tombstone says Mary Josephine. When I looked for Mary Josephine Hicks in 1850 census I found Mary Hicks in the home of Joseph and Jemima Hicks and thought that was my Mary Josephine Hicks Baughman. I was mistaken. I did not know about Mary Hoover Baughman until later. Wesley P. Baughman has children by both Mary Hoover and Mary Josephine Hicks Baughman buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Benton County, MS. I still do not know the maiden name of Mary Josephine Hicks Baughman. Information on both Mary Josephine Hicks Baughman and Wesley P. Baughman and Caleb Hicks was given to me by the man who compiled the Confederate History for the county. M! ary Josephine Hicks Baughman did have older children by Caleb Hicks. Co. Mary Josephine Hicks later married Wesley P. Baughman, friend and fellow Confederate soldier of Caleb Hicks. On finding the marriage record of Mary Josephine Hicks and Wesley P. I am afraid that the visit would probably not be productive. I visited it about 10 yrs. ago. There were 3-4 legible headstones, but an equal number were not legible. My relatives, who live in the Olive Branch area, tell me that vandals destroyed some of the remaining headstones. If you need the info on those headstones, let me know. My relatives also tell me that one of the local newspapers had an article on the Cemetery say 10-15 yrs ago. If they used special techniques, such as shaving cream, they might have revealed more information than I got from the stones. Do you have any suggestions as to which newspaper that might have been?

As far as Wall Hill is concerned, I do know that the most prominent (spelled money) family near Wall Hill was the Hancock family (of VA, not Mass.). Dr. R. C. Hancock had vast land holdings there pre-civil war. There were numerous Hancocks involved in Marshall and DeSoto Co. government. good luck

Busby b 11/8/1875, married George Thompson L. H. Busby (male) b. abt 1878 Most, if not all, later moved to Memphis, TN. The only known connection that I have made is to LAWRENCE P. BUSBY who was a cousin and he was listed as being born in Louisiana, his parents (unknown) born in Alabama. He had sons named: Lawrence P. Busby Allison Busby and Richard C. Busby. They were all listed in the census in Memphis. I think, but can not prove, that my Elijah was the son of Elijah Busby who died in Madison County, AL in 1843. There are some name similarities from that family. Does anyone have any info on these Busby's or any other Busby's from MARSHALL COUNTY, MS? I have been stuck for so long! Thanks for any help. Tina

Hi all! Several years ago I visited Marshall Co., MS and the records are a mess there. The probate packets are in floor to ceiling drawers and the people who come to research sometimes can't find them because most researchers didn't put them back in the proper drawer. Some but not all are mixed up. I think there is not enough staff to do the searches. It's best to hire someone there to help or go your self.
