I know he was born 6/6/1858 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee. When he was 17, (about 1875) he joined the ministry. He was a minister in Lamar County Texas for a Methodist Protestant church. I am assuming in was a minister in Holly Springs, Miss. too. On 9/17/1875, he married Martha Jane Hunsucker. From family info I know that they lived in Holly Springs until the mid 1890's when they moved to Fairlee, Texas and then around 1900 moved to Roxton, Lamar County, Texas. I have the 1880 census for Marshall County Mississippi but cannot find them. From a family bible I know that CC's parents were CC Phillips and JH Smith, but I don't know what the initials stood for. I have no birth/death info on CC but JH Smith Phillips was born 11/22/1827 and died 8/3/1883. I assume that they lived in Holly Springs too. Can anyone help me on this family? Michelle
Does anyone know anything about the school that was in Bethlehem on Macedonia Road? Was it a one room school and called Macedonia School or was it the larger school that is referred to in an article by R.B. Henderson in the South Reporter that says, "The school immediately to the rear of the Methodist Church has been greatly enlarged by the addition of the Cook School and that the faculty of the school could teach any subject desired by advanced pupils." Thanks, Sylvia Akin

I just recently learned last week from a death certificate that my ggg-grandmother's maiden name was Briscoe. So this surname is basically new for me. I am trying to see if she may have been linked to Notley Warren Briscoe or James Warren Briscoe in Marshall County. My ggg-grandmother was born in TN about 1826. She lived in Tate County. Her name was Margaret.
I am new to the list and attempting to help a friend with his Holland and Potter family research. His grandparents were Washington Potter and Perneice Holland and great-grandfather was William C. Holland. I believe some of these folks are buried in the Potts Cemetery. Would appreciate any help....is there a book for early settlers in Marshall County? Thanks!! Doris Moore [email protected]
