    1. [MSMARSHA-L] Rook Family
    2. Carol Shrader
    3. The ROOK family had major interactions with my ggg-grandfather, William W. HAIL, who moved to Marshall Co, MS from Montgomery Co, TN abt. 1837. The HAIL family lived in the Mt. Pleasant community where William HAIL was a founding member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church. William W. HAIL was born abt. 1789 in North Carolina and died 1873 in Marshall Co, MS. I have detailed a number of his transactions with the ROOK family on my WebSite at the following URL: http://members.cox.net/wi4k1/hail.htm I would appreciate a review of this information by ROOK researchers in hopes that they can identify the family connection, and possible North Carolina origins of this family. I strongly suspect the Halifax Co, NC area. Carol Shrader Virginia Beach, VA

    3. Hi Again, One of the more important things I found in your email is that you are researching McClellan. Please give me some info. I tried to get your website, but it would not come up. My gr-gr grandfather was Ricahrd Dick McClellan. A mulatto whom I cannot find any trace of prior to 1870. He was born in Tennessee but his parents were from NC. Hoping to hear more from you. 1. Re: [MSMARSHA-L] Marshall Co. MS Will and Probate Records
    2. Dear Pat, I saw your message re the MS Probate Records. May I ask a favor of you? It has to do with Charles grandmother, the wife of Samuel whose second marriage was to Ella Rook. On the death certificate of Charles father the maiden name of his grandmother was given as Tyler. I noticed this was given by Charles mother and I am now wondering if she really knew. I have been unable to find any Tylers. The second thought I had was that perhaps her maiden name was Lyles inasmuch as they gave that name to one son. The 1880 MS Census states that she was born in MS. Could you check to see if either Tyler or Lyles appear in these probate records? Dixie

    2. MARSHALL COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI WILL & PROBATE RECORDS By Betty Wiltshire Probate records included in this compilation cover the years 1836 through 1862, with the wills included in the probate books. Probate records generally give the name of the deceased person, names and relationships of heirs, places of residence, etc. They also include records of guardianships of minor children, widow's dowers and inventory records. Inventory records include ownership of slaves, often giving names and occasionally ages and relationships of slaves. Due to the large number of slave listings, two indexes were necessary, one for each race.
