I am looking for information on the Richard Winborn family with links to Langston and Meadows in the Ashland area. Richard and several family members are buried in the Ashland cemetery. I am especially interested in finding the burial place of Pugh Houston Winborn, who was killed during the War in August, 1864. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Loretta

Thank you so very much, without Emily there I am not sure it is the right family (but at the moment have drawn a blank on her d.o.b. *blush) This has been a stinker to find because there are so very many Daniel McNeills. The Marshall Co site has; McNeill,Miss Julia Ann, 11.23.50 The funeral card had Daniel being born in 1799 so I don't know if this is him or a cousin but the Emily is awfully suggestive. Moore Co NC site has up Daniel as Sheriff and marrying Julia Farish and then he dropps off the map. I will save this as it is the first tickle of him since 1824, thank you so much Eliz

It appears Mary Elizabeth died after the birth of her daughter. I have a record of a Thomas Word, Jr. marrying Mary Ann Stearns on 13 Jul 1853 in Marshall Co. This could be a second marriage for Thomas J. Word after his wife died or another. I had thought Thomas Jefferson Word was possibly the son of Thomas Adams Word of Surry Co., NC, as Thomas J. acted as the attorney for Thomas Adams Word in 1828 when the latter was in Habersham Co., GA. I wonder where Thomas J. Word died and is buried?

I was aware of the county changes about that time, that's why I felt I might be missing them. If the census taker skipped them, he skipped several families. In 1880, the name ends up being spelled Hickumbottom. Since it is such a long name, I have even pondered that the census taker may have taken the liberty of shortening it to Higgin...no one checked their work that closely back then. Anyway, thanks again for trying.

You might try the Benton Co., MS census for 1870. In July 1870, a small portion on the east side of Marshall Co. was combined with a portion of Tippah Co., MS to form Benton Co. Since Potts Camp is located close to the Benton Co., MS line, that could be a possibility. If not, the census taker probably missed the family.
