Surnames: WALTER, MOORES, BORLAND, GRAY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HKB.2ACI/2020 Message Board Post:    We seek your help, which you may or may not be able to provide, if not would you kindly point us to where we might find help? That which we seek is:    A copy of Fanny (Fannie) Green (Borland) Moores' (aka, Violet Lea), written tribute to Holly Springs', Harvey Walter following his yellow fever death in 1878, as reported in her obituary (death by yellow fever as was her husband a year earlier) found on front page of The Memphis Daily Avalanche, 24 August 1879.    Mrs. Moores was proclaimed as one of the Belles-of the Ball in Little Rock & Memphis in her obituary and later in 1894 by General John M. Harrell in "Confederate Veterans" issue, --- she, the eldest daughter of frontiersman, Dr. Solon Borland, Esq. (1811VA-1864TX) of Memphis & Little Rock, served as a Major in Mexican-American War (captured & escaped) 1846-1847, U. S. Senator 1848-1853, U. S. Minister to Nicaragua 1853-1854 and a Confederate Colonel early in Civil War, who organized the 3rd Reg., Ark. Cavalry, CSA, died first day of January, 1864, a ferry ride from where Texans won their independence, 21 Apr 1836 with Sam Houston's, 18 minute battle of San Jacinto on childhood (Murfreesboro, NC) acquaintance Col. James Morgan's land, whose mulatto servant is the "Yellow Rose of Texas"!    Fanny's uncle was; Dr. Euclid Borland (1809VA-1881VA), resident operator of father-in-law Augustus Moore's (1784NC-1843MS) plantations in northern Marshall County MS.    Fannie was a personal friend and surrogate daughter to 'Colonel' Oliver Crosby Gray, who 20 Dec 1862, a Lt, in command of Company A, 3rd Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry, CSA in Gen Van Doran's decisive raid of Holly Springs, Gray, who with wife and son had 2-years earlier, lived for 1-year on the Wills Plantation, 9-miles north-west of Holly Springs as teachers before removing to Princeton, Dallas County, AR. It was in their Little Rock home were Fannie married James C. Moores, Tuesday morning, 21 Apr 1869!..    Possibly most famous of Mrs. Moores' works is; "Dead Confederacy"poem, <http://members.cox.net/confed/poetry/poem99.html>, highly acclaimed in London's "Cosmopolitan" 21 December 1871, having been furnished by Father Abram P. Ryan, a copy of said article, published in The Daily Arkansas Gazette, Little Rock, Sunday, January 21, 1872, page 2, column3.       Your response will be greatly appreciated,

    1. Clarification regarding Ancestry subscription service
    2. Deb Haines
    3. I received this message clarifying the misunderstanding regarding viewing family trees and Ancestry.com's subscription service: What is being SOLD is a subscription to an advanced search feature that will match data from the free (still free) family trees and that found in other pay databases and census records at Ancestry and present it to the subscriber in a neatly stitched together package -- taking the work out of the searching and matching. What is being SOLD is CONVENIENCE and not the trees. The trees are still free to submit and free to search and match using the same tools that have always been part of the program. Nothing has changed in that regard.

    2. Deb Haines
    3. Michelle & All, RootsWeb provided the following response to a MS county coordinator. Please note that the family trees will remain "free" for viewing. Please read below: ************************************ A response to your Help Desk message, "One World Tree," of Mon, 3 May 2004, at 11:15 a.m. follows: ------------------------- Trees uploaded to either side (RW/Ancestry) are visible from both sides. Ancestry is *not* charging for access or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. Think of it like a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human. > Will the family trees at World Connect be included in the One World > Tree Project? -----Original Message----- From: MICHELLE BARDIN [mailto:mbardin1@msn.com] Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 4:33 PM To: MSMARSHA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [MSMARSHA-L] Important, Please Read Regarding Ancestry.com Changes Hi Deb, I want to make sure I am clear. 1. New Automated File Submission to the MSGenWeb Archives Project
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HKB.2ACI/2016 Message Board Post: Greatest News since sliced bread!! Thanks to David Crosby we now have forms for submitting your records to the Mississippi Archives. These forms will make it so much easier for contributors to share their records with the MS Archives. They type in the information, click on submit and the .txt file is instantly formatted, created and mailed to the rootsweb directory and available to the rootsweb search engines at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/newsearch.htm within 48 hours. Most of these forms, with the exception of just a few, will allow the user, or the file managers to copy/paste the data into the forms. For anyone who has had a nightmare of reformatting a word document into ascii text file, you'll love this feature!! This database can be set to send a copy of files submitted to any of the county mailing lists (providing the list admin will put the forms on accept or give a subscriber email address). These forms have been used for almost 2 years in Alabama and Georgia and the results have been that contributors love them. It takes any guesswork out of their hands, the files are formatted with all pertinent information and submitted within the USGenWeb Archives policies. They can get immediate response by choosing to send a copy back to themselves and because of the "ease" of submitting through these forms the amount of sharing has at the very least doubled.. I hope you'll all be as excited as I am in having this new feature for the MSArchives and add a link to these forms on your pages. There are two servers so that if for any reason one is not working the other will work as a back up. These are at http://www.genrecords.org/msfiles and http://www.genrecords.net/msfiles/ I hope you'll all join me in welcoming this new addition for MSArchives and promote this new and efficient way of helping to get genealogical records online. If anyone has any questions about these forms they can send them to Debra Crosby at debra@genrecords.org or David Crosby (creator) at david@genrecords.org Ann Allen Geoghegan USGenWeb Archives - Mississippi Project Coordinator

Mr. Butler was my paternal GGGF. He was also the maternal GF of William Faulkner, the author. Thanks.
