Author: Contribution Surnames: BYRD, BUSH Classification: obituary Message Board URL: Message Board Post: YOUNGSTOWN - Mr. Lawrence Lorenzo Bush, 73, entered to rest on Aug. 5, 2014, at home with his family at his side. Mr. Bush, affectionately known as "Larry" and "Bush," was born May 12, 1941, in Columbus, Mississippi. The son of Velma and Silas Byrd, he was reared by Renabelle and Charles Bush, who took him into their home at a young age. He came to Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) as a child with Renabelle and Charles. He graduated from East High School, Youngstown . Larry worked in the Open Hearth Plant at US Steel. He also worked as a bus driver for Community Busing. He retired in July of 2011 from Youngstown City Schools after serving as a mechanic, bus trainer, and bus driver for 18 years. He was a past member of the Prince Hall ARM of America chapter of the Masons. He was an avid bowler and sang with the Union Specials. Larry was a founding member of the Sensational Cleftones of Youngstown, Ohio. He was an active member of the Cleftones until his health failed. Lawrence was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife, Edna (Smith), whom he married Sept. 28, 1974. Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, eight children, Renee (Fredie) Thomas, Victor (Kym) Bush of Kentucky, Anthony (Theresa) Anderson of Alabama, Yvette (Juan) Pitchord of Cleveland, Arnetta Stokes of Michigan, Loreatha (Les) Hawkins, Linda (Dennis) Elms of Hawaii, and Audrey (Lee) Tillis. He also leaves four brothers, Tom (Adline) Hargrove of Alabama, Silas (Debra) Byrd of Pennsylvania, Michael (Timmy) Byrd of Pennsylvania, and Raymond Vernice Byrd; and two sisters, Theresa Byrd and Linda Byrd of Pennsylvania. He also leaves 33 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents and adopted parents, Larry was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Jr.; granddaughter Rosalyn Thomas; and a sister, Anna Brewer. Calling hours and a musical tribute will be held Monday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church at 110 Funston St., and additional calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church .
