The Ellis family that lived in Columbus was Emily F. Ellis, the child of Noah, who married J.W. Davis. Her sister Martha Ann Margaret Ellis married a Gibbs and later a John Love. Emily was my great grandmother and is buried in Friendship Cemetery at Columbus. I do have information on the ancestors if this is part of your line.

They have a file of miscellaneous photographs, including some on tin-type. Some have been identified, but many have not. Since Oktibbeha County is adjacent to Lowndes County, I am posting this to my Lowndes List. I am in possession of a xerox copy of the 1911 Plat Map of Oktibbeha County. I am scanning it by sections as it 3 times larger than my SCSI Flat Bed Scanner. I am posting it on an old web site of mine. PLEASE if you need it, grab each section by right clicking on the picture once each section loads, and saving it to your hard drive. Be patient, as they are all quite large. <http://members.nbci.com/wastinaweigh/> Clare L. Herrick <http://www.ebiCom.net/~lowndes> MSGenweb County Coordinator - Lowndes County, Mississippi
I'm looking for information on the John Henry Stewart-Rebecca Holladay family. The IGI shows them starting out in Marion county in Alabama. This is consistent with census records for the Holladays. They were in the Sanford/Lamar/Marion area, near Sulligent. I do not know the origin of John Stewart. John and Rebecca probably married in Lamar county about 1866. Rebecca was born 8/20/1849, but her death date is unknown. John died about 1918, but his birth date is unknown. Their fourth child, Henry L. (Lon) Stewart was born in 1872, probably in Lowndes county. He was my great grandfather and I have lots of information on his descendants. Their first child, Ider Josephine (Josie) Stewart married Alex Killion 11/23/1899 in Lowndes County, according to the Mississippi marriage index provided by Ancestry.Com. They produced Carol and Lillian, birthdates unknown. Norm Stewart Arroyo Grande, Ca.

Can you believe how fast the time has passed? This one almost passed me by. The AL-CEMETERIES Mailing List has 424 members, 310 on the Regular list and there are 114 members on the Digest List. As most of you know by now, the GenConnect Boards have changed. Rootsweb.com and Ancestry.com are continuing their merger and now have merged the GenConnect Boards. I am not sure of my feeling regarding this yet, but will watch it and let you know. I am not one to jump to conclusions quickly. I also take care of many GenConnect Boards and did loose all of them in which I did not take care of the Query board due all the boards, bios, wills, pensions, etc. being combined within the Query board. If you used one of these boards, now you know why I suddenly disappeared. I know many of you have concerns regarding copyright laws and the information you post to the boards and the mailing lists. The following was posted by Rootsweb Management. "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it." If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. Hi Everyone, I am forwarding this message to the list for everyone's information. The GenConnect Boards on Rootsweb have been moved over to MYFAMILY.COM. Due to this change, there are several isssues that have come up that you (the researcher, and poster) need to be aware of. First, MyFamily.Com has put a copyright on all the postings that have already been submitted. I would suggest for the time being that NO ONE post anything to these new boards until clarification can be made on this. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Faded Genes" <faded-genes@wildmail.com> To: <cat@ancestraldesigns.com> Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 12:58 PM Subject: Re: [GAUNION] New Message Boards - System Overview As list admin for several lists on rootsweb and gen connect board, I decided to check out the new boards. If you choose to print a message, you will get a notice that the INFORMATION is copyright by MYFAMILY.COM and cannot be used without their permission. It doesn't say anything about the author, just the permission of MYFAMILY.COM. Ancestry's terms of agreement state that they can change their policies at any time. We've been discussing this for two days on the newbie list owner list. I personally am not posting till this is cleared up and am advising my list members to do the same. It would be sad to find later on that you couldn't use you own family Bible records because MYFAMILY.COM holds the copyright. They don't bother to put this forth when someone posts, only when they choose to print. Carol R.
I'm sorry that I don't have any connection to the MS U for Women, but I was wondering if the prospective author knew anything about the East Mississippi Female Institute. I believe it may have been in Jackson, though. My great-grandmother went there in the 1880s. Bronya Feldmann

My Aunt, Nettie Ervin Hairston, went to II&C. It always seems to be the pride of the family. She died in 1967. She was well into her 80s so she was probably born in the 1880's. We lived at Crawford, MS. which is 25 miles from Columbus now but was much farther in those days. Good luck with your book. Carolyn Hairston Blair Henderson. chenderson703@cs.com
I have my great-aunt's diploma from the I I & C dated 1890. It is about 13" x 17" and signed by the Board of Trustees and the Faculty. I also have pictures of her. My mother attended II&C but did not graduate, but I have a Yearbook with her picture, name, etc. in it. I think it is 1916. I might have some other things if you are interested, but will have to look for them. Libba in Columbus Sally W Williams wrote: > I am new to the Lowndes County list and thought I'd send out a query.
