Weathersby return from New Orleans last Monday. The steamer New Jennie was at our wharf last week with a good load. Mr. F. F. Becker of Brookhaven was in town last Monday on business. A Negro child was burned to death in the upper portion of this county last week. The publisher is suffering from a severe cold and fever this week hence the scarcity of local matter. We are very much indebted to Mrs. Frankie Hartzog and Elvina Wylie and Mrs. Cornelia Hartzog, of Blountville for a pleasant call last Monday. Call again ladies. The celebrated Alliance lecturer Colonel Harry Tracy, of Texas will lecture in this place on Wednesday April 3rd. Don't fail to hear him as he is said to be a fine orator and a man of extraordinary good sense. BOARD OF SUPERVISORS At a regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors the following members and officers were present to wit: Archy Fairly, N. B. Buckley, D. A. Scarborough, F. F. Roberts, A.W. Stringer, D. M. Lee, sheriff and Will C. Cannon, clerk. The report of the Alfred Sharp County Treasurer was received and filed and vouchers canceled. The report of D. B. Bennett, W. M. Waller, W. W. Mikell, F. M. Mitchell, H. T. Griffith, J. F. Hutchins and P Braddy, commissioners appointed to lay out a road running from the Mount Carmel and Hebron road to the Columbia and Westfield road, was set aside and disapprove, and said commissioners were authorized to reexamine said route and layout said contemplated road on the most practical route avoiding if possible any claim for damages on account of said road. S. C. Garvin was allowed a dollar for making and putting up our mile boards. C P Price was allowed $1.25 for making and putting up five Mile boards. A D. Blackman was allowed 75 for making and putting up three Mile boards. The following allowances were made to wit: Dr. B. D. Bishop for attention to pauper and for lumber for bridge $7.50. Joseph Dale for publishing proceedings of the board $15 John H. Carlisle for repair of the jail sewer and fire back in clerk's office $5 Mat Baggett for one index Board 25 William Wooten was enrolled as a pauper at the rate of $5 per month. A. A. Russell was authorized erect two Gates across the Bogue Chitto Road on his land. The petition of W. M. Herrington at all, asking for public road was postponed until next meeting.
