The William Cooper I’m searching for was born 1752 in Sampson Co., North Carolina, and died circa Dec 1821 in Lawrence (Lincoln) County, Mississippi. He was the son of Fleet (?) Cooper, Sr., and Marguerite Coore. William was an early settler of this area and built a mill on what is now Cooper’s Creek. Capt. W. C. Maxwell, who erected a new grist, saw, and rice mill, later acquired the site of Cooper’s original mill. I find his son Fleet buried at Fair River and one reference to William as a Baptist preacher.
