I know the son was Samuel J.McCrary and my ancestor, Martha Ellen McCrary born August 31, 1816 was one of the girls. This leaves three daughters unaccounted for. They were listed thus: Lawrence Co., MS census listed as Matthew McRary..1 m 5/10; 1 m 40/50; 1 f u/5; 1 f 5/10; 1 f 10/15/ (this would be my Martha); 1 f 15/20; 1 f 40/50 According to a deed record, Lawrence Cty,MS records show that Mathew McCrary and wife Amelia sold land on BogueChitto River in 1835 so they were still alive then. My aunt who was born January 27, 1882 told me years ago that her grandmother was either a McCrary raised by the Edwards family or an Edwards raised by the McCrary family in Lawrence Co. As she was near 80 when she told me this, she couldn't remember for certain. Since she married in Carroll Co., MS in 1837 she didn't live with the Edwards family long if her parents both died in 1835. I know for certain she was a McCrary. Her tombstone has her maiden name as McCrary. I'm wondering if her sisters lived with the Edwards family also. I would love to find the missing three sisters. Anyone out there have a stray McCrary female? Ann

My great grandmother was Bertie May Newsom ( sorry no birthdates) her father was Samuel Newsom and mother Susan Marilla Blackmon b: Aug 9 1876, d: Apr 10 1894. I have information for the Blackmon side of the family, but not the Newsom. I know that they lived in Lawrence County around New Hebron. I also think that Susan Marilla Blackman may have died after giving birth to Bertie May Newsom, and that her husband Samuel Newsom may have married one of her sisters. The only sisters that I have for her are Willie Alma Blackmon and Annie Buella Balckmon. Any help on this link to the past will be appreciated.

A great deal of local matter is necessarily crowded out this week. Mr. A. C. McNair of Brookhaven was here this week on legal business. The editor of this paper leaves today for Memphis, Tenn., on business. The finest stock of fancy candies in town will be found at H. S. Scherck's store. During the absence of the editor next week all moneys for him will be left with Mr. Will C. Cannon. Did you ever buy a horse and not have some misgivings as to his points till they were tested? Not so with Ayer's Sarasaparilla: you may be sure of it at the start. It never disappoints those who give it a fair and persistent trial. Tryus Notes The Doctore has christened one of our streets. Anyone wishing the name should enclose a stamp to him. Mr. J. J. Grice, one of our most prominent citizens, is getting around lively this week. He is evidently getting ready for Xmas. Mr. Luther Knight, a young man universally liked wherever he is know, is studying medicine. Everybody is getting on Christmas smiles. Even Mr. Walden is happy. He was here this week, smiling on everybody. The Bear creekers' are hustlers. One of their schools, Spring Hill, numbers over forty this week. They need a larger hosue, and will build one soon. All: After some years as serving as the Jefferson Davis administrator, I am hanging up my spurs after Christmas. I want to thank everyone for their support, for the information that everyone has shared. Certainly, it has been a great journey! I have notified Ms. Pack, and I'm certain she will be polling for volunteers! If you want some fun, give it try. If it is ok with the new Administrator, I will continue with the Daily News, I will finish the "Five years in Mississippi Transcription", and will start on the handwritten notes of the Bethany Baptist Church, which has a wealth of names, information, and, while, of course, religious in nature, some fascinating reading! The notes I have managed to obtain go from 1805 to 1932, through the change over in the Civil War, many changes in minister, and hands down, is the most fun I have read in quite a long time! I can't wait to start and share. Everyone, thanks! Sincerely, Eddie Mikell
