Posted on: Lawrence Co. Ms Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Lawrence/610 Surname: Jones, Miller ------------------------- I am researching our branch of the Jones family history. My great-grandfather, Isaac "Ike" Jones, was brother to Edward Lafayette "Fate" Jones of Lawrence Co. Isaac, Elijah, Fate (all brothers), along with their father, Henry D. W. Jones, and one sister, Rebecca Jones Gunter, migrated from Alabama sometime before 1870, when all but Edward L. show up on the Neshoba Co., Miss. census. They soon moved to Walnut Grove, Leake Co. My cousin who lives in Louisville, Miss., and I (who lives in Houston, Texas) have been trying to find information about Fate Jones and his descendants. I believe that Fate had a son named Houston (H. H.) Jones, who married Lula Jones, his cousin, who lived in Walnut Grove, Leake Co., Miss. Lula was a daughter of Isaac Jones. To my recollection, Lula and Houston lived in Monticello, Miss. (I remember visiting them there when a small child), and had the following children: Ellen, Iris, Fannie Mae, and Isaac. I believe that Ellen married Hugo Dedeaux, or one of the girls did. I also seem to remember that one of them married a Bass. My mother, Mary "Katie" Jones Clifton was first cousin to these children. I would really appreciate any information that you would furnish me about this branch of my family, and of course, I would be happy to supply you with whatever I have that you want....I am still in process of searching and compiling and could gratefully use your help! Sincerely, Betty Wall

Bethel Baptist Cem., Lawrence, MS George's parents Elbert W. Reid and Elizabeth Mullins I don't have easy access to any MS census except the 1850 MS census which is online. I believe George in in Pike in 1910. Leah Martin Wakefield's father shows Sarah E. Martin m. George Reid or Reed as daughter of John Anderson Martin and Mary Elisabeth Pate. This family shows up in Smith co [state?] in 1860. But he also shows Sarah d. Aug 1886 in Crystal Springs, Lincoln co, MS. I don't know if this information is correct except for the death date OR if this is entirely a different person. There is consensus among grandshildren of our Sara[h] that she died in 1900. I have not found George and the children in 1900 census. George and Sarah were not yet married to each other in 1880. The 1890 census is not available. I don't know if there is a 1900 mortality index. I have not found Benjamin and Sarah in 1880 and don't know if Benjamin died before she married George. I don't have further details on Benjamin Stegall. Would love to find more information. Do you need any other specifics? Darlene

Included in the family were John, Sr and wife, Elizabeth, and 5 children (John Jr, James, Nancy, William and Mary - all born between 1784-1802). After John Sr's death in 1822, John Jr moved to the Little Bahala area where he had the post office. Jr was still alive in 1858, though his wife had apparently died 1840-50.
