I had a gAunt named Susan E. (Ellen) that married a Henry Avara, according to family information. She has been most elusive, as well as Henry. She was born in 1853 to Thomas W. WELLS and Sarah Ellen Kerley Wells, my gGrand., they are noted on several pages in "The First Hundred..." where they lived. Also noted at the Fellowship Baptist Church. Do you think there is any posibility that this might be this Susan? Do you think the time frame would fit? Robert Wells

Would gladly pay copying and postage expense. I am sure that is my Burt line out of Clarke County, MS. Emma Lou Burt Price

My parents worked in the Alden Knitting Mill in Tuxedo(south of RR tracks). The Cotton Mill was in East End (north of the tracks) Seems to me it was called Sanders, but I am not sure of that. I do not remember when it closed, but Acme Building Supply was later located in that building. (They did millwork, too, as well as retail). Before moving to Meridian, my parents worked in the Laurel, MS cotton mill and my father went to work in Stonewall Cotton Mill at a very tender age, probably 12 or 13. The mention of cotton mills evokes some strong memories for me. Emma Lou Burt Price

Freeman on the 1860 Laud. Co. Census was Gideon Allen Freeman b. abt. 1827 in NC. He was either the son of James Freeman or was James's younger brother. James and Margaret Freeman came to Laud. Co. between 1846-1850 because the Elizabeth A. Freeman who lived with them on the 1850 Laud. census was b. in 1846 in ILLINOIS.ELiz. was my GGGrandmother and she married into the McMullen family of Marion in Laud. The Freemans also lived at Marion. Did you find your Johnson on the 1850 Laud. census?? If not and you think they were related you might want to check out Bond Co. Illinois as I am doing now. I have made a possible connection between James in Laud. co and the Freemans of Bond Co. IL. Only just made this connection last night and have not had time to prove anything yet. By the way, there were Johnsons in Bond Co. IL but when one begins looking I guess Johnson is a common name and abounds everywhere.
