They likely started in Mississippi and moved to Texas. The following information is what is known about their family. Maburn Purvis was born in Mississippi. He patented land in Alabama in 1837. (near MS border) A record of a land sale by Maburn Purvis can be found at ancestry.com. On March 15, 1837, a Maburn Purvis made a cash entry sale of property in Alabama. The land consisted of 80.61 acres in the St. Stephens watershed, Township 19N, Range 2W, Section 10. Land patents document the transfer of land ownership from the federal government to individuals. Land patent records include the information recorded when the ownership was transferred. Melvina Lewis was born about 1825 in North Carolina. Maburn and Melvina were married December 28, 1842 in Lauderdale Co., MS. The reference to the marriage of Maburn and Melvina was found on familysearch.com.
