Dear Lauderdale County Researchers, My husband, Ken Clay, has ancestors buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Martin near Collinsville. We got to go to the cemetery on June 3rd of this year, and I was very touched by that piece of earth. I am designing a webpage about Pine Grove Cemetery and the people who are buried there. It is still very much under construction but here's the link if you'd like to take a look at it: http://members.tripod.com/~rvrclay/www/pinegrove.html Basically, I would like the website to tell as much as possible about the people who are buried at Pine Grove. (My husband's lines buried there are Clay, Powell, Fortson, and I believe, the Hands buried there may be related to him.) I have included a section on obituaries. My goal is to have as many of the obituaries of those people as I can find through the Dept. of Archives and History or the public library or wherever old issues of the Meridian Star can be found. But I thought I might try begging from descendants as well. [:-)] I would happily pay for copies and would give you a "Obituary courtesy of ..." message with a link to you e-mail address. I can even add a query for you if you would like. Also I have a section for Pine Grove Researchers and Other Lauderdale County Researchers. If you would like to send me your name, surnames, and e-mail address, I will list it on one of those two pages. Thank you so much for your time and kind attention. Good luck on your searches. The National Archives sent me a reply that they had found information on him and requested that I send $5 so they could then send the info to me. They did not want the money unless they found something.

One of the earliest settlers in Perry County, AL, was John Johnson, who, along with David Durden, helped to form the town of Marion. The Durdens were from Tennessee, possibly this John Johnson was also. These Durdens and Johnsons may have been related. David Durden's mother was Sarah Bobbitt, wife of James Dearden. Sarah was the sister of Charity Bobbitt, who married Benjamin Johnson. The Bobbitt family appears to have been associated with our Johnson family as evidenced by the fact that my gggf Jeremiah Johnson's son-in-law John W. Mooney is buried in the Bobbitt Cemetery in Houston County, Texas, as are several others in the Mooney family. Two of John W. Mooney's sisters Mary and Martha marry Bobbitts, William Henry and James Jefferson respectively, who descend from this same Bobbitt ancestry. A large segment of the Durden, Bobbitt, and Mooney families eventually migrate from SW AL and Lauderdale Co, MS area to the same counties in East Texas as our Johnsons - Houston, Anderson, Trinity, Cherokee, Henderson, possibly others. Would love to correspond with any of the Jeremiah F. Johnson or John W. Mooney descendants. Researching my father's JOHNSON line, WILKINS, CRUTCHER, ADAMS, and others Researching my mother's VANCE line, ANDERSON, MAPP, HARRALSON, and others Family files may be viewed at <www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/a/r/Cathy-Garrett> Or see the whole compilation at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~magarr/

I went out to the Goodwater Baptist Church. Searched high and low, and when I was about to give up, my uncle gave me an old photo showing what appears to be my ggrandfather with 2 other male family members. Dated 1907. All that is written on the back appears to be " From Papa To Cla "Clara?" " S. M. Brown, J. H. Brown, and D. R. Brown" it was a little faded so I used my scanner and played with the colors until I could read it. J. H. Brown is the spitting image of his son, John Joseph Brown. Any idea who the others are? Thanks. Mitch
Hi all, There are two really useful pages added to GenLookups.com http://www.genlookups.com There's a page that has a genealogy newsfeed that shows news items from newspapers across the country that have to do with genealogy. Today's listings are particularly interesting. This page is at http://www.genlookups.com/news.htm The other one is the Miscellaneous Lookups page at http://www.genlookups.com/misc.htm This one has various types of lookup tools on the web that help you locate counties, cities, zip codes, genealogical societies, the most accurate time of day in any time zone, domain/IP converters, etc. Hope these help.
