This is probably just a name coincidence, but I have a Sarah Jane MOORE who married my great grandfather, Jeremiah Bentley BOUGHAN, here in Clarke Co., MS, 19 May 1860...haven't found out if she died or what...gr-granddad BOUGHAN went to Civil War, made it back, and married again in 1866 (Isabella BURT). I have no info on Sarah Jane's ancestry. Sorry, I haven't found out any more about this family.
I was wondering if you ever made the link between Sara Jane Moore and ? Smithwick. My great-great-grandfather John Perry Smithwick lived in Lauderdale County in about 1850. I am looking for any information about him, his wife (Isabella) or his children (Thomas Andrew Jerfferson, Mary Isabelle, Edmond, Alex, Catherine, Ann, or Siebel Sarah) while in Lauderdale County, MS. Any information will be appreciated.
Jerri, I believe your Joseph Moore was my grandfather and Frank Ray my uncle. Please email any other Moore names that you have. I have been researching my Moore line for MONTHS and your posting is the FIRST I have seen with names I connect with! There are so many Moores!! If this is my line, I will help you if I can. Where do you live? What is your connection to the Moores mentioned? Please reply back. Look forward to hearing from you! Phyllis
I have checked my family records and I do not have a John Wesley Brown in my family tree....at this time.....it is, of course, possible that additional research may uncover a branch that includes him. I do have two David Wesley Browns (Jr & Sr.). I am sorry that I can't be for more help for you. Patricia B. Merrill

I recently came across information that my GreatGreat-grandfather purchased land in Lauderdale County, MS. Was wondering if anyone might have a Township/Range map of this area that wouldn't mind scanning the area of this land and sending it to me as an email attachment. If so, I'd really appreciate it. If you do not have a scanner, if you could identify a marker (town, street, or river) in the center of the area, I'd still be able to know the general location of this land and where my ancestors lived while in Lauderdale county. Here's the info: April 1, 1852: James New purchased 80 acres from T. A. and Mary E. Goodwin at: E 1/2 & SW 1/4, Section 11, Township 8, Range 17E. Nov 21, 1853: Sold the above land to Wm. B. Wilkerson Nov 23, 1853: James New purchased 40 acres from Obediah Clay and wife, Marthy, at: SW 1/4 & NW 1/4, Section 23, Township 8, Range 14E1. Again, can someone help me with the exact location of these two plots of land. Thanks, Millard New
William Smith and wife, Sarah Philpot Smith, moved to MS from Bibb Co., Al. before 1850 as well as their son, Wilkin Smith and his wife Martha Broadhead. Wilkin and Martha supposedly died about 1853 and left orphan children - they were in Lauderdale Co., MS at that time. I am trying to find info on those children and would appreciate any help anyone could give me. Thanks.
I had at least three ancestors who lived in Lauderdale County after the Civil War. William Asa Whitlock, Sr. & Jr. and John Lasetor Whitlock. I have some good info and would like to hear from someone who is researching these folks. Thanks, Dorothy
