This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Beck, Ramsey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AKB.2ACI/1272 Message Board Post: This family appeared on the 1870 Census in Yalobusha County, Roll 754, Book 1, page 99a, Township 24, Coffeville. Dwelling #279, Family #290: Moman, Winnie Age 28 Sex F Keeping House b. Miss. Moman, William Age 9 Sex M At Home b. Miss Moman, Alice Age 3 Sex F b. Miss. (There was no adult male in this family). I am certain the 3 year old female, Alice Moman, is the same person who was Grandmother. She was born 27 Sep 1866. She married my Grandfather, Andrew Jackson Ramzy (later changed to Ramsey) on 15 July 1888 in Lafayette County. After their marriage they lived in Lafayette County the remainder of their lives. They had 13 children together. I have not been able to find this Moman Family on any other census, either before or after 1870. Within the family, Alice Moman's parentage was always secretive and was never discussed, which has led to rumors she was (what used to be called) an illegitimate child and even that her mother was a prostitute. Also that the father was a prominent person in the community who didn't wish to be known as the father. She didn't die until 30 Oct 1935, so there is a death certificate on file which I have obtained. On the certificate her parentage is shown as "unknown". The person who provided the information for the death certificate was one of her dau! ghters, who one assumes would have known her mother's parentage. If someone reading this post has any knowledge of this family or can provide any clues to other records I can explore I will appreciate your help.
