FIRST - I strongly advise you to talk to a VA rep at any courthouse! I did this and found out there is a NEW REGULATION concerning headstones and IF the government will pay for it. If the soldier has a private stone marking the grave already, they WON'T pay for the stone. Bummer. They will inspect BEFORE the stone is denied/approved. They go to the cemetery. BEWARE. I am also trying to get a stone for my husband's ggreat grandpa buried in Calhoun County. His private stone is held together with steel bars and the VA has it's hands tied regarding a military stone placement/reimbursement.
Good luck talking to anybody at the Oxford Courthouse. I was there in July and the person who I talked to was pretty rude and extremely unhelpful. Sorry, just venting.
