Evie, I am very sorry to misname the Library in my last email. We have been to the Skipwith Genealogy & Historical Society's room on the upper floor of the Oxford Library and I should have been more careful when mentioning it. I looked back in some correspondence to see if I could find the names of the cemeteries we were told might contain the graves of Isham and Elizabeth Thweatt. Two email contacts I found a couple years ago on this list (thankfully) are Amanda Canter, who grew up in the area but now lives in MO, and Lisa Morris Coleman, who I believe still lives in the Oxford area. They both descend from children of Isham Thweatt, though different lines than my husband. An older relative of Lisa's told her that Isham and Elizabeth Reeves are buried in Union Grove Cemetery. Sadly, I have not been able to contact Lisa since before our visit to the Oxford area a year and a half ago. Her older relative (98 yr.) whose father was Robert Edwin Thweatt (son of William Isom Thweatt), supposedly had some very promising things to share with her, but I don't know how that turned out. She was told there was a Bible and a diary, documents and photos. I don't know whether she ever was able to view these with the older relative and I don't know whether this older relative is still living. We were so excited to think of the information this person possessed, but, as I said, I did not hear any more. Amanda thought that the Thweatts might be buried in the Wilkes-Williams Cemetery, which is now on private property. That is the one that Amanda's cousin, Geraldine Bowles, was kind enough to help us find and we walked through it with her. We were not able to locate the Union Grove Cem. Geraldine seemed to think they would be in one of those two cemeteries. Neither Amanda or Lisa think that Isham and Eliz. Thweat had marked stones, so it will probably be impossible to know the burial place for sure unless there is some old family Bible or other records(yet undiscovered) which would help us. (which we were so hoping Lisa's relative could provide.) As far as location, I'm not sure. The copies of the Lafayette Co. census for the years 1850 and 1860 that I have, do not have that district info on them. I need to do more research to find that out. However, another copy of an article by Janie G. Dooley (found at the Skipwith Historical Society and shared with me by another Thweatt descendant) gave some information about Isham and Betsy's son, Frederick Thweatt: " Sometime between 1842 and 1844, Frederick and his wife, Dicey Jane Murray Thweatt, and their little daughter Parmelia, moved from Kentucky to Lafayette County, along with some other relatives and friends named Murray and McCain. They settled in the hills near Paris..." Thanks for your interest and help. It is so appreciated. Judy Stone in Michigan p.s. Lisa and Amanda, if you're still on the list, I'd love to hear from you again. If you can add or correct anything I've said, please do.
Hello, Judy; Thanks for reply, your apology is accepted.:) I have been doing a lot of seaching about these cemterys since Paul put his announcement on the board. In doing so I went to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History site http://www.mdah.state.ms.us/arlib/find.html under the new cemtery topic , I pulled up Lafayette County and found the following which might help you see if the Thweatts are on the Union Grove Church cemetery index. Here is the information: Union Grove Church Call Number: 929.3/M691/L13, Vol. 1 page 122., the Wilkes/Williams Cemetery is 929.3/M69L/L13; Vol 1, pg. 124. Now, I don't known if these indexs are the Skipwith Lafayeete County Cemtery books or not. But, you should check them out. The MDAH has instruction on how to request copies of the cemetery or if you have someone here who has the cemtery books, I tell you what William Ward does look-ups for the Lafayette Co Mailing list , Contact him , give him the information I just gave you and ask him to please do a look-up for you in these two cemeteries. blessings; Evie --- JWJDS63@aol.com wrote: > Evie, > I am very sorry to misname the Library in my last > email.
