    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AKB.2ACI/1219 Message Board Post: Need help on this family. Stephen and Mary married 11-21-1869 in Lafayette Co. They were there in 1870 and in Yalobusha Co. in 1880. They have two sons living in Lafayette Co in 1920 and 1930. They are Charles James Shearer and Wife Sallie F. and John William Shearer and wife Annie P.(Irwin)? I don't have anything on their families. Or what happened to their parents. They also had a sister Hettie born around 1879. If anyone can help with this family it would be greatly appreciated. I can fill in Stephen's parents and brothers and sisters. But little detail. Kim

    3. Kim, Cemetery records of Lafayette Co. give a little information that may help you with this family group. Specifically, The Abbeville Cemetery listing records these burials: John W. Shearer, b. 1871, d. 1939 Annie P. Shearer, b. 1876, d. 1943 (above on a double headstone) Charles J. Shearer, b. 29 August 1876, buried in Friendship, Tenn Sallie Frances Shearer, b. 12 August 1867, d. 2 October 1935, 1st wife (above on a double headstone) Next in the Palestine Cemetery are: Lee Shearer, husband of Beulah, b. 29 September 1886, d. 20 January 1929 and M. E. Shearer, wife of S. A., b. 10 August 1849, d. 12 December 1891. Could this be Mary E. Smith Shearer, wife of Stephen A. Shearer? Could Lee be another child of Stephen and Mary? By the way, the Palestine Cemetery was in Lafayette County until 1872 when a portion of the SE corner of the county was ceded to Yalobusha County so that all of the Mississippi Central Railroad yards at Water Valley would be in the same county/tax district. Hence, you will find the family in both counties, though they never moved. I checked the Will abstracts for Yalobusha county and found one will that might be of interest to you, as follows: Will of Joseph SHEARER, page 40, Will Book 1, Second District (Water Valley court house): Sons- Joseph N. Shearer, George W. Shearer, William A. J. Shearer; Grandson- Wm. Frederick Shearer; Bequeaths to - Dicy Ann Adams, Stephen ?___?; Witnesses - John Young, Margaret Shearer, T. B. Abbey, H. A. Crofford. Probated July 1884. Marriage bond book K, page 128, Lafayette County, MS J. W. Shearer & Annie Shipp, 26 September 1894 R. A. Burroughers, Minister of the Gospel, officiated. Marriage bond book B, page 170, Yalobusha County, MS; Water Valley court house William J. Shearers (sic) & Manervia Jane Lewis, 22 Dec 1896 E. D. Williams, Elder, officiated.
