    3. Barbara, The surname LEWIS caught my attention because it occurs a few times in my family tree. Unfortunately, none of the people you named are in my tree, but I went a bit farther in my material to look. Specifically, the 1870 census shows only one John LEWIS in Lafayette county, MS. The family data therein looks like this: 1870 Census, Township 9, Oxford, Lafayette Co., MS Page , family # Lewis, John 56 M Farmer NC Avan 37 F Keeping house NC Jno. 16 M At home MS L. 14 M At home MS William 12 M At home MS Jackson 12 M At home MS (Note: I did not find this family on the 1860 census of Lafayette Co., MS.) I suspect that the Jno. Lewis, age 16, could be the same one you are looking for, but can't offer definite proof. A John Cyrus LEWIS, b. 1853, is mentioned in the Lafayette County Heritage book in 1 of the 2 family articles, but he married a PAGE in 1873. Finding a John LEWIS is like finding John SMITH - one of the 10 most common pair of names in the English speaking world, I've read somewhere. Good luck with the research.
