Hooray! Someone finally mentioned COLEMANs! My GG-grandfather CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS COLEMAN was born NOV 14, 1819 in Union Co. SC. He was the son of BARTLEY COLEMAN and MARY ELIZABETH POOLE. Bartley was the son of ROBERT COLEMAN and ELIZABETH 'Treassie' SMITH. On NOV 17, 1857, C.C. married NANCY JANE BRYANT (some sources say Mary Jane). She was also born in SC on APR 20, 1838. I don't know anything about her parents. Family lore says she was Choctaw. C.C. and Jane had nine living children between 1858 and 1875. According to the information I received from a previously unknown distant cousin, all the children were born in SC. They were: MARIAH, WILLIAM BARTLEY, MARTIN LUTHER, ONESIMUS C. "Oney", NANCY ANN, JOHN COLUMBUS, SINNACAR (Seneca?) GRADA "Grady", CHARLES, and my g-grandmother FLORENCE ETHER. If all the children were indeed born in SC then it's my assumption that the move to the Tula area in Lafayette Co was made after 1875. C.C. was very close to his brother REUBIN and his wife Louisa Brooks and also to his sister CAROLINE and her husband William Gossett. It appears that they all may have moved to MS at the same time. C.C. died in 1894 and Nancy Jane died NOV 20, 1914. All three couples are buried in the Tula Cemetery as well as many of their children. If any of these names are familiar or you're related to these lines I'd sure like to compare and share information with you! Penny
