To all MSLAFAYE board subscribers. Recently I accepted responsibility for the Lafayette County web site and the MSLAFAYE boards from Shirley Scott. I take this opportunity to thank Shirley for the magnificent manner in which she ran these web-based activities and added much to assist the casual and the serious genealogy researcher with roots in Lafayette County. I hope to continue in the same vein. I look forward to receiving your suggestions for improvement and your submissions to add to the web site. A pet peeve of mine, shared by many of us, relates to "netiquette", and that is becoming less of a problem as more people get involved in on-line research. One of the last remnants that detracts from my enjoyment is either the use of all lower case or all upper case when typing. I know that some of us whose eyesight is failing or who are using WebTV to browse use all upper case to ease the problem of readability. That's okay, and I encourage you to let us know so that we can respond in like fashion. Otherwise, someone might think we are shouting all the time. For those of you who use only lower case, that's okay, too. However, it would be appreciated if you would type each and every surname in all upper case letters. This makes it easier to pick out specific names and saves lots of confusion. This is not a "flame", but simply a request. This forum is a great one for those who wish to ask specific or general questions about 1, a group, or a complete family of people, times, events and history of Lafayette County. I ask, however, that you not send any attachments to the list; reserve that for private correspondence with individuals. Finally, when you send a request to a lookup volunteer, always specify the book or resource material concerned, and limit your request to 1 or 2 individuals. Do not ask for "any and all information" they may have on an entire family, for it takes considerable time to comply and in an imposition on their time. In like fashion, if you perceive any of my postings to be less than gracious, please let me know immediately. I'm involved in this great hobby because it satisfies my need for solving puzzles and is just a lot of fun. I want to keep it that way for all of us. Thanks for your consideration.
