Do you have a copy of the book, HERITAGE OF LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, published by the Skipwith Historical and Genealogical Society? On page 562-563, there is an article about your Charles W. Starnes. It states that he was born on Feb. 20, 1830 and died 10 July 1862 at Toccopola while on leave from the army. He married Elizabeth C. More on Jul. 22, 1852. There is a picture of both Charles and Elizabeth in this book. My Charles W. Starnes is not the same as this one, but he was also in Lafayette Co. I have been very confused about the two. My Charles W. Starnes was born 9/15/1834 and died 4/1/1913, according to his tombstone (which shows C. W. Starnes). He is buried in Old Lebanon Cemetery, Lafayette Co., Ms., just a few mi. from Toccopola, MS. The C. W. Starnes family bible shows his birth as 1838. He married Mary Ann Furr Morrow, who was born 7/24/1836 and died 5/14/1910, according to her tombstone (which shows Mrs. C. W. Starnes, wife of C. W. Starnes). Mary Ann's first husband, John S. Morrow, died during the Civil War. They married in 1866. It states that Mary Starnes born 20 October 1857 married Sam West. Their children: Lizzie born June 1888, Dave born November 1889, Jim born October 1891, and Mary F. born February 1894. The article was written by George Mayes Starnes, Sr. The article gives some information on some of Charles W. Starnes' other children. Peggy, I have watched for a long time hoping someone would mention the old Lebanon Cemetery. I know that members of my McCord and Gordon lines were charter members of the old Lebanon Church. In fact, their son-in-law Frank Patton was pastor there for several years in the mid to late 1800's. Do you know if anyone has indexed this cemetery? How big is it? I have a John McCord (Revolutionary War Soldier from SC), his wife (name may have been Betsy McCord), son James T. McCord, Rosa "Rosey" Ann Gordon McCord, and Ezekiel Gordon that I have not been able to find their burial place anywhere. Based on land records, etc., I believe they may have been buried in the old Lebanon Cemetary. Can you tell me how I could find out (w/o coming to MS)? By the way, I have been told that Rosey McCord and Ezekiel Gordon's sister and husband Hugh Kirkwood are buried at the Sarepta Cemetery you mentioned. Nancy, Do you have any information on the Old Lebanon Church, Lafayette County, MS, including its early members? My great great grandmother, Mary Ann Furr Starnes was a member. Her father, Allison Furr and his brother, Tobias, help establish the town of Toccopola. Mary Ann was born in 1836 and died in 1910. I visited the Old Lebanon Cemetery abt. two years ago to get some information off my relatives' tombstones.
