    1. [MSLAFAYE] Rileys, Workes, Westmorelands and Hipps
    2. I know that there are some connected with Westmorelands and Hipps that I am in hopes can tie my Rileys and Workes in, or provide a hint/hypothesis as to what the connection is: My line goes from Benjamin F. Harwell and Sally Riley Harwell. Sally Riley was the youngest of 11 children.(So far, I know only of those descended from Sally.) Sally's parents were Jesse Riley (b ca 1805 in NCarolina) and Sarah Worke (b ca 1814 in NCarolina). They were married in Mecklenberg County, NCarolina, on 25th June 1835. John M Riley, I believe is Jesse's father: He is on the 1820 Lincoln County, NCarolina Census, then disappears. I don't know who Sarah Worke Riley's parents were. Sarah and Jesse's children are: 1. Margaret, born 2 July 1829(? year) in NCarolina 2.Jane, born 8 August 1831 in North Carolina, marrried J.C. Ray (Roy?) 3.John, born 27 March 1833 in South Carolina, married Mollie Idaho/ Elizabeth Williams(?) 4. Marth Adeline, born 10 March 1835 in South Carolina 5. Jessey J., born 17 January 1839 in Mississippi In 1860, he is living with Shackelfords in Chickasaw County, as an overseer He fought with Co.E, 14th Mississippi, in the War Between the States 6. William, born 17 August 1842 in Mississippi 7. Lucy Anne (or Manerva?) born November 1843 in Mississippi 8. James, b ca 1845 in Alabama, married Lillie __ 9. George D., born 1848 in Alabama 10. William Arnold, born ca 1849 in Mississippi 11. Sarah Narcissus, b. September 1850 in Chickasaw County, Mississsippi m. 7 December 1866 in Lafayette County, Mississippi to Benjamin F. Harwell d. June 1933 in Lafayette County, Mississippi In September 1850, the family -Margaret is in Okalona by 1860, Sarah must be dead, as Jesse is found in Van Buren (Itawamba County), Miss with Ann, 16 yr old, born Miss. George, 12 yr old, born Ala. Sarah, 10 yr old, born Miss In 1860, in Richmond, Miss. (Itawamba County), John, 26 yr old, born SCarolina and Jane, 28 yr old, born SCarolina are living with Robert and Dorcus Westmoreland. These 2 people were married in Mecklenberg Co., NCarolina on 19 August 1828, with Alexander C. Worke as their bondsman. Other Mecklenberg marriages which seem to indicate a connections are Rhodee(?) Westmoreland married Anne Hipp, 1 September 1808, with John Hipp listed as bondsman. Robert Lenier married Anne Worke, 4 September 1830, with Robert Westmoreland, bondsman. Were the Westmorelands and Workes, Rileys just good friends; or was there a family connection? Who did the children marry? Are there any descendents tracing on these Riley children? Who were Sarah Worke's parents? Family lore says that they were well-to-do and opposed the marriage. A researcher suggested that one Alexander Worke might've been Sarah's father. If this is true, it seems that maybe one of the children would be named Alexander. Was the "A" in William A.'s name "Alexander"? There is a Margaret Criswell who married a Worke, but the dates aren't right. I'm going to try to go to NCarolina and see if clues can be found; but I sure would appreciate any clues/directions/ hints before the trip. Where did Sarah Worke Riley die? Thanks in advance. Jo
