I think we've corresponded before in your research of the McKinney family and my research of the Miller family. Charlotte was a sister to my g-g-g- grandmother, Temperance P. Miller Davis. I'm glad I saw your post, as I'd not been able to find Charlotte on the 1920 census; her sister's obituary in 1931 stated she lived in Mathiston, MS, so I'd still been looking for her in either Oktibbeha or Webster Counties. I don't know exactly when or where she died; I suspect that she broke up housekeeping after James died and she visited around and lived with various sisters/nieces and nephews. You probably already know that there is a stone in Spring Valley Cemetery (north) in Webster County bearing the name fo "Jas. E. McKinney, Co. H 12 Tenn. Cav." with no dates of birth or death. Have you written for Confederate pension records for Charlotte? They are likely to reveal when and where James died, since she would have to sign up to receive his pension.

The question was asked in an earlier posting, " Can anyone on the list make a connection between the Haney Ray family and the family of Hiram Ray, which was in Lafayette County on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses of Lafayette County. " I just found a probate court record, docket #403, in Lafayette county which shows that James COOK, Hyram RAY and others sued William H. SMITH, Executor of Thealhilus W. PULLIAN's estate (deceased). Concerning petition of complaint for title to certain lands. Probate Court May 21, 1849. Appears that James COOK and James RAY bought 307 acres of the NE-1/4, Section 4, T 10, R 4 West, and James RAY assigned his interest to Robert RAY, Alexander RAY and Hyram RAY, John HYRAM, Jane TOMPY and Polly COOK, heirs of Abram COOK. No relationship is indicated for the above named RAYs to each other in the probate court abstract, and according to the book, the original papers are now missing. If someone can piece all this together, maybe it will help solve the question about Hiram/Hyram being related to Haney, et al. Bill Ward Pottsboro, TX
Just in case you don't have this information, I've transcribed all the entries in the Lafayette County cemetery books. Hopefully, it will fill in some information for those of you researching the RAYs in the county. I have no answer to the question about possible relationship of Hiram and Haney Ray, unfortunately. Hello Can anyone on the list make a connection between the Haney Ray family and the family of Hiram Ray, which was in Lafayette County on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses of Lafayette County. Hiram and Mary (I think her name was Mary, don't have my notes with me) had several children...I remember a Lucius, Nancy, Mary, Martha...I know there were several others. They seem to disappear after the 1870 Census (and I also am unable to find many of the children in the 1870 Mississippi Census). I do know that Lucious Ray appears in the 1880 Census of Navarre County, Texas. I believe I found Nancy Ray with her sister, Mary Gatlin in Tate County, Mississippi in the 1880 Census. Nancy supposedly married a "Gus" Carroll before 1882, when her son was born. His name was Ross Carroll. Family lore said he was born near Batesville, MS in Panola County; but I'm not sure of that... Nancy later married a J. R. Wakefield in the late 1880s and moved to Texas. The Wakefields and the family of Ross Carroll spent their time between Mississippi and Texas and many of their descendants live in both states. I am from the daughter of Ross C. Carroll and Eliza E. Williams (b. in Lafayette County, MS), her name was Cecil Irene Carroll Boatright, wife of Mal Boatright of Lafayette County. Does anyone have any information on a connection between Hiram Ray and Haney Ray? I assume Hiram died before the 1860 Census as his wife and family are listed without him. Where the children vanished to in the 1870 census is a mystery to me that I haven't been able to solve. Thank you, I have most of this information, I have found a lot of information on Census records.
Joye, I can't help you out much with the RAY family line, but have a little on the LOVELADYs and this particular union. According to my records, this family consisted of the following: 1 Henry Wilson Ray d: in Lafayette Co., MS +Louisa Ansolstine Lovelady b: April 07, 1848 d: May 1912 in Lafayette Co., MS m: November 14, 1869 in Lafayette Co., MS 2 Joseph Ray b: January 09, 1877 2 Mollie Ray +R. L. Callahan 2 Maggie Ray b: March 09, 1881 2 Elick Ray 2 Roxie Ray 2 Sam Ray 2 Ivy Ray 2 John Haney Ray +Sarah Elizabeth Pass b: February 07, 1868 d: August 13, 1920 in Yalobusha Co., MS m: November 11, 1896 in Lafayette Co., MS John William Lovelady b: Abt. 1823 in TN +Elizabeth R. Youngblood b: 1829 in KY d: Abt. 1860 Louisa Ansolstine Lovelady b: April 07, 1848 d: May 1912 in Lafayette Co., MS +Henry Wilson Ray d: in Lafayette Co., MS m: November 14, 1869 in Lafayette Co., MS Joseph Ray Lovelady b: Aft. 1850 My connection to them is through the PASS family. If I am reading the article on the RAY-PALMER family found on page 531 of the Lafayette County Heritage book correctly, Haney RAY was one of 8 children of Henry RAY and his wife, Jane. The article states that "Henry Ray died in Greenville County, South Carolina, before October 1845. The probate records show his wife Jane and eight children. (1) Mary (Polly) married William Tinsley. He was a Minister. (2) Jacob; (3) Joseph married Nancy; (4) Elizabeth Ann married John Kelly (5) John; (6) Martha married Lewis Land (7) Sarah Jane married Joseph Barnett (8) Hanniniah (Haney) married Mary (Polly) Wilson and left Greenville County, South Carolina soon after they sold property they owned with Jesse Wilson in 1853. Hanniniah (Haney) and Polly were in Lafayette County early in 1861. They went with the Wilson families into Illinois where they stayed during the Civil War. After the war Haney returned to Lafayette County, Mississippi with his children. Polly had died and was bu! ried in Cairo, Illinois." The 1850 census, page 333B, for Greenville, SC is interesting because it shows almost all the entire family of Henry (Haney/Hanney) RAY living adjacent to each other. Specificially: 228 228 Hanney Ray 28 M SC Mary 22 F SC Henry 2 M SC 229 229 Jane Ray 59 F SC John 18 M Laborer SC Martha 16 F SC Sarah 12 F SC 230 230 Joseph Ray 26 M Farmer SC Nancy 20 F SC I hope this helps you in some small way to sort out all the RAYs along the line. Good luck with the research.
