The mother was a House Keeper, she may have been working for the children's father's family. Also, who lived on either side of her in census , may be relatives. I notice the son's name was WILLIAM, could this be the father's first name also or the paternal grandfather's given name? Also, could the name be mis spelled. Perhaps , it should be MORMAN or NORMAN! I found my Amyett family spelled Amyt on the 1850 Yalobusha Co. census, which one of my Amyett great uncles married a Ramsey girl from the Pine Valley, Yalobusha Co. area. I hope these little tid bits give you a lead. Best of Luck; Evelyn Crocker Lafayette and Yalobusha County CC

Surnames: Beck, Ramsey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AKB.2ACI/1272 Message Board Post: This family appeared on the 1870 Census in Yalobusha County, Roll 754, Book 1, page 99a, Township 24, Coffeville. Dwelling #279, Family #290: Moman, Winnie Age 28 Sex F Keeping House b. Miss. Moman, William Age 9 Sex M At Home b. Miss Moman, Alice Age 3 Sex F b. Miss. (There was no adult male in this family). I am certain the 3 year old female, Alice Moman, is the same person who was Grandmother. She was born 27 Sep 1866. She married my Grandfather, Andrew Jackson Ramzy (later changed to Ramsey) on 15 July 1888 in Lafayette County. After their marriage they lived in Lafayette County the remainder of their lives. They had 13 children together. I have not been able to find this Moman Family on any other census, either before or after 1870. Within the family, Alice Moman's parentage was always secretive and was never discussed, which has led to rumors she was (what used to be called) an illegitimate child and even that her mother was a prostitute. Also that the father was a prominent person in the community who didn't wish to be known as the father. She didn't die until 30 Oct 1935, so there is a death certificate on file which I have obtained. On the certificate her parentage is shown as "unknown". The person who provided the information for the death certificate was one of her dau! ghters, who one assumes would have known her mother's parentage. If someone reading this post has any knowledge of this family or can provide any clues to other records I can explore I will appreciate your help.

    3. Rachell, There were sevaral LYNCH families in the county, which makes searching a little difficult unless you can give me more information to help me zoom in on a time period. Do you know the approximate date(s) of their birth or their marriage? That's about all I need to narrow the search and make it lots easier. Is there anything in particular you want me to search for or to be on the watch for, regarding this couple? Or do you just want anything and everything I can find? Either way, I'm glad to help. 3. Eric, I have every published book on the county which lists most families from formation of the county in 1833 to 1900, and found evidence of this family in only one of the books. Specifically, I found 3 marriage bonds (see below). C. J. Prince and Mary Wilcos, 23 Mar 1860. H. B. Hayward, officiant; L. R. Wilson, bondsman Marriage bond bookC, page 120, Coffeeville court house records J. T. Prince and Bell Eldridge, 1 Dec 1889 Rev. R. F. Cole officiated; J. C. Treloar, bondsman Marriage bond book A, page 314, Water Valley court house records J. W. Martin and Mary F. Prince, 13 Jan 1869 H. B. Hayward, Minister of the Gospel, officiated; F. D. Swearengin, bondsman. Marriage bond book E, page 93, Coffeeville court house records The 1840, 1850 nor 1860 census rolls do not show this family in Yalobusha county. In the 1840 census, here are the heads of household for PRINCEs in the entire state of MS: Name City, County, State C S Prince Not Stated, Claiborne, Mississippi Catharine Prince Not Stated, Washington, Mississippi Daniel Prince Not Stated, Tishomingo, Mississippi David Prince Not Stated, Tippah, Mississippi Francis Prince Not Stated, Lowndes, Mississippi Henry Prince Not Stated, Jasper, Mississippi John Prince Not Stated, Covington, Mississippi John Prince Not Stated, Lauderdale, Mississippi N Prince Not Stated, Jasper, Mississippi Based on my review of my books, I conclude that the PRINCE family did not appear in Yalobusha County until after the Civil War. The 1870 census shows the following PRINCE family, the only one on that census: 260/262 Prince, William C. 35 M Farmer GA Anna M. 30 F Kep house Ga Callie M. 4 F MS Tobey 3 M MS William 2 M MS Infant 6/12 M MS Next door at family 261 is a child, Mattie Prince, age 8, b. MS living with the family of John W. Martin. I searched the 1860 census for all of MS and got 131 hits, with most of them showing birth states of AL, GA, , NC, SC, TN and MS, with one in PA, one in England, one in AR and a few in VA. Similar results were found in a search of the 1850 census for MS, though there were only 86 matches for the surname. Contact me directly if you have hard evidence that the PRINCE family was in Yalobusha County in the 1840 and I'll do a more thorough search. 3. I am in search of any information on the families of (J.S., Josiah, Joseph) Ford, b. abt. 1823, of LaFayette County, MS. His first wife was Mahulda, according to the 1850 census. They were parents of my great-grandmother Tennessee T. Ford, b.1850, and her older sister Sarah, b. 1844. By the time of the 1860 census he was married to Ann E. and living with Tennessee, Sarah and two younger children, Percy, b. 1854 and Josiah, b. 1856. In the 1870 census Tennessee had married,2/11/1868, William J. Young, b.1843 had a child, John Smith Young, b. 1869, and moved to AR. I have several land transfer documents with the name J.S. Ford, some with the name Josiah S, Ford and a will that was written in 1896, probated in 1904, using the names Joseph S. and J.S. Ford. The information I have on my great-grandfather William J. Young is: b. Nov. 1843 in TN. In 1870 census he is living in Pike Co., Red Land, AR with Tennessee (18), John S. (1), Catharine (50), Lucinda F. (18), James A. (17), Silas D. (14) and Susan C. (12). In the 1900 census he is a widower living in Conway Co. Cedar Falls Twp., AR with Sussie L. (18), my Grandfather Silas H. (16), Sarah (14), Willis J. (11) and Monroe F. (8). In the Confederate Army Rolls there is a listing for William J. Young. Enlistment Nov. 26, 1861, Army Muster Roll, Co. F, 45th Reg't., AR Militia, Searcy Co. I don't know if this is my great-grandfather. Thank you, Jean Muzzin

    3. Hello, Jean. I don't have any personal knowledge of either family, but thought I'd offer a tid bit of information which I gleaned from the several books I have on Lafayette Co. According to one of the book, W. J. Young and T. P. Ford married on 11 February 1868 in Lafayette Co., MS. The marriage is recorded on page 271 of Marriage Bond Book 2. W. S. Burney, minister of the gospel, officiated at the marriage. In the will abstract book, there is the following entry: YOUNG, WILLIAM C., of Humphreys County, Tennessee Will - copy pa pages 47 - 53 Dated - 15 August 1848 Probated - Waverly, Tennessee, 4 September 1848, recorded Book G, pages 96 - 97. Names - Sons: John T. and Jacob M. Uinder 21); daughter Hester; father, James Young; brother, B. D. Young. Administrator - John T. Young Securities - James D. YOung; James J. Wilie Oaths - Willkins W. Waggoner, James S. Waggoner Note - In December, 1848, James D. Young was appointed administrator with John Crockett (Povall?) as securities. Recorded Book I (?), pages 124 and 125. In the book "Early Settlers of Lafayette Co., Mississippi" published by the Skipwith Hist. & Gen. Society, the name A. A. Young is associated with the town of Wyatt which was established circa 1833. The surname Young is associated with the town of College Hill in its beginnings. Perhaps these names will tie in with your reseach. Bill Ward

His wife and some of his children are buried in the Webb Cemetery in Lafayette County, MS.) I don't show a daughter for Elisha and Mary's son, John Thomas, which is the line I have more info on because this was my husband's line. I am looking for their descendants. I would like to know more about him and his parents. He was quite popular around Paris area in the 1880s and 1890s. He was Mayor of Paris, loaned money, and performed marriages according to records I found in the chacuery clerk's building. My grand uncle James Alfred Crocker was married to John Webb's daughter, Sally Ann , this John is buried in the Paris Memorial Cemetery not the Webb cemetery on east of Paris. I'm still learning. Second, a response by email to this post speaks of a John Thomas Webb and his brother, Joab S. Webb. There is some confusing about John Thomas Webb. There may be two different John Thomas Webbs. Elisha and Mary Sharp Webb had a son, John Thomas Webb, born in May 1851 in Lafayette County, MS. Silas L. and (1) Sarah Ann Berryhill Webb had a son, Joab, born in 1838 in Marion, AL. Silas L. and (2) Nancy Berryhill Webb had a son, John, born in 1856, Marion, AL. What I've been trying to do for months is to try to determine what connection, if any, Silas and Elisha had. I am leaning real heavy toward them being brothers. But, I have no confirming documentation. One reason is that Elisha had a brother named Silas. He had another brother named William. Silas named a son, William Thomas. I know these names are very common ones. So, whether they are related, I don't know. If anyone has any info that would help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Sue
