Kathryn has adult chidren: Virginia Roger, Patricia Cosper, Debra Warnke, Michael Warnke and Tracy Warnke, most of whom we believe are still living in Lafayette. I trying to find out if there is any history on the RIVERS family. I've done reseach on this family from 1870 onward, but I'm hoping that maybe there is some other history perhaps in the university? Has anyone done any research there in Old Miss? Glennie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Looking for an original picture of the Pine Flat School students printed in the Lafayette County Heritage book C72 page 183.
I have someone looking for a picture of the old Campground School.
The vandalism at Yellow Leaf Cemetery is so heartbreaking. Many family members of both my father and mother are buried there. Several of my mother's Metts family's monuments were overturned. My 90-year-old father was very upset about this, as everyone else in the community was, I am sure. Unfortunately, this can happen anywhere, especially in the rural communities where there are no houses close by. I hope that the culprits can be tracked down before they decide to go and do the same in another cemetery! Sandra H. Fitts shfitts@bellsouth.net
There is very little in published material about Lafayette County which give information on either the McIntosh or McGuirk families. Here are a few tid bits which may offer a clue to your questions, though. First, the 1960 Land Owners roll shows that H. D. McIntosh owned 80 acres of land valued at $1,000 and had personal property valued at $700. He harvested 600 bushels of corn and 6 bales of cotton that year. Next, abstracts of Co. C, 9th MS Regiment, CSA show that Corporal William L. McIntosh was enrolled by Capt. Delay March 27, 1861 at Oxvord for 12 months. He was a 20 year old farmer. Travelled to Pensacola via rail early in April and enlisted n CSA Army by G. Forney. ABsent on furlough for 25 days starting septemver 9, 1861 per physician's certificate. Discharge account of disability on December 3rd. Described as 20 years old, born in Georgia, five feet eight inches tall, fair complexion, haxel eyes and auburn hair. Lafayette Co. Marriage bond book 2, page 172 shows that Virginia McIntosh married S. B. Boweles on 10 April 1862; J. F. Moore, Minister of the Gospel officiated. Lafayette Co. Marriage bond book 3, page 368 shows that W. L. McIntosh married Alice McGuirk on 14 December 1871; J. M. Phipps, Mayor of Oxford, officiated and H. H. Hunt was bondsman. The will abstract of Joseph D. Willcox of Wyatt, Lafayette Co., MS, dated 24 Sept 1876, shows a relationship with between the McIntosh and the Willcox families. Rebecca Jane Willcox married unknown McIntosh and lived Austin Co., AR and Elizabeth M. Willcox married unknown Nash and lived in Harnett Co., NC. I hope that some of this might fill in a hole in your information and lead you to the next clue. Good luck. Bill Ward

I certainly had no intentions of insulting you by feeling friendly enough to refer to you as "My Dear". Or imply that you were a "Newbie " in the genealogy field. In this matter; I was simply sharing my thoughts in my humble attempt to assist you with this query and the other one dated March 7, 2004. "Thomas Cobb" Author: Debbie Brigman Date: 31 Jan 2005 11:17 PM GMT Classification: Query Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message Am interested in learning more about the Thomas Cobb who appears on the 1880 Lafayette Co. census with wife Emma and father-in-law Joe Dotson. Census info follows: Cobb, Thomas W M 26 MS--GA--GA Emma W F 25 MS--AL--AL Dotson, Joe W M 70 AL--AL--AL (widower, father-in-law) I can't find Thomas and Emma on a later census. Does anyone have any information about this family? "Thank you" Debbie; I may have given the wrong given name when I referred to the Dotson man as John when it was JOe but, the fact still remains you wished in your response on March 7, 2005 for the death cert. so you could prove your connection to the Dotsons. True, a John COBB was mentioned in a response another person gave you with a Thomas Cobb in household in Panola Co. I will say this in closing , I answered your query in good faith taking time out of my busy schedule to do so. Had you not seem to over look the fact, I would not have pointed out that her father was living with her in 1880 whose surname was Dotson which was enough prove of kinship . But I should have realized you were conscious of that when you wrote the post by the first paragraph. I am sorry I do not see the point of your mention of your submission to the LAfayette Co. MSGenWeb page other than to mention how gracious I was then nor do I remember your submitting a thing. But, I have received so many submissions since I have became the CC I have reason to forget one. Forgive me for that. I feel I was as gracious in this posting as I was in answering your personal query and don't deserve your post which didn't even have a THANK YOU for attempting to help you. I don't wish to become unprofessional and lose any more of my "GRACIOUSNESS" , because it seems you were looking for a dispute by the way you signed your post "I am looking forward in hearing from you". Since I first send my response to your post of March 7, 2004, I volunteered to replace my Mentor William Ward as Lafayette County Mailing - l administrator and he accepted my offer, Wm. announced my appointment over the mailing -list about noon today and I don't intend to let this reply to you make me look unprofessional, I am sorry you were offended by my humble offer of help. With your expert experience I am sure you will need no help from me in finding what became of your ancestors, the Thomas Cobbs. In closing I wish you many BLESSINGS . I shall be happy to attempt to assist your again in the future . Good Day, and Good Luck. Evelyn Crocker Lafayette County Mailing List Administrator. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AKB.2ACI/1267.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Dear Evie, I would like to start off by saying that I was somewhat taken aback by you addressing me as "My Dear" and then proceeding to give me a basic genealogy lesson. I have been seriously researching several lines for over 20 years (through original research...visiting courthouses, major libraries throughout the South and I've spent two 5 day weeks at SLC doing nothing but research), so I think I know what I'm doing. You gave me a microfilm reference as though I didn't know what it was. I've been ordering film for 20 years. And, I am well aware of when death certificates started being issued. I learned a long time ago that you cannot trust what's on a census. I've found whites recorded as blacks, mother's recorded as children, ages off by as much as 10 years, birthstates that are completely wrong, I've even had one family recorded in two different states for a single census year. The census might provide clues but you really can't depend on them for accurate information. If you will go back to my posting/s, I stated, " I sure would like to get my hands on Emma Cobb's death certificate to help prove my Dodson/Dotson connection." You jumped the gun by telling me there was already a definite relationship to Jos. Dotson. If you knew anything about this family (which I wouldn't expect you too), Joseph Dodson/Dotson was in Panola Co. by 1850. On the 1850 and 1860 census there was no Emma (or any other female) who was born in or around 1855 with Joseph Dodson/Dotson. Furthermore, according to the 1850 and 1860 census, it appears as though there were two sets of children (one from another marriage), and as you well know, those census' didn't state relationships. So I can't definatively say Joseph Dodson/Dotson was the father of these children. When you go back and reread what I was looking for...."What happened to Thomas and Emma Cobb" I was hoping someone might have an idea and I could start looking for a death certificate AFTER the states started issuing them. I submitted some information to your Lafayette Co. USGENWEB site about two months ago and you were very gracious about it. I really do appreciate your work on the USGENWEB Lafayette Co. site. I wish more coordinators had the enthusiasm as you do. So, I've had my say. Can we start off again on an equal footing? I noticed that you have a Matthews line. I am descended from Isaac and Ellen Matthews who ended up in Shelby Co., TN in the 1840's. Any connection? I look forward to your reply. Thanks, Debbie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AKB.2ACI/1267.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Debbie, My dear; I would like to point out that you have the proof you need to prove Emma Cobb's Dotson / Dodson connection in the Lafayette Co. Census you quoted: Thomas Cobb Head of Household; Emma Cobb wife, age 25 bn MS parents bn Al. John Dotson ; FATHER-IN-LAW, this is Emma Cobb's father if he is father-in-law to Thomas Cobb who was head of household. Emma must have been bn. in 1855 if she was 25 on the census you quoted. So, now, you have her father's given name as John Dotson/ Dodson so look in the 1860 MS census for him and you should find a 5 year old Emma which is your second source for proving relationship. There was no such thing as death certificates in her day unless she died after 1912 in MS and maybe earlier like 1909 in other states. I can't find my grandmother's who died in 1927 in MS or my grand-aunt's who died in 1918. Yet , my great-grand-mother who died in 1919 is recorded . Her certificate number was found on Lafayette County: Mississippi Death Certificates 1912-1924 MSDAH Microfilm Roll #V362-1. Hope this will help. Evie Lafayette Co MSGenWeb CC
Hello, all subscribers, It pleases me to announce that the current Lafayette County Coordinator, Evelyn Crocker, has volunteered to take over the duties of the MSLAFAYE Mailing List. She comes with previous experience with other mailing lists, so the learning curve is almost non-existent. Plus, her interest in Lafayette County, MS is keen and she's a very helpful individual, as I'm sure you've all noticed by her numerous postings to help others. I will remain a subscriber and assist where I can in the coming months and years. Thanks for all your help and courtesies in the past. Hello all subscribers, Due to my declining health, I feel a need to relinquish my position as List Administrator for the MSLAFAYE List in the very near future. The work is not difficult at all, and can be learned in a very short time. If one of you subscribers has experience with a surname list, the duties are exactly the same. If interested in taking over, please contact me off list at spencer4488@sbcglobal.net and we'll discuss the transition. Thanks to everyone for sharing all the information you have posted in the past several years and the courtesies you've shown me and other subscribers. Bill Ward
