I understand that Chris Rose lost his home in Katrina. It hasn't affected his ability to communicate his love for South Louisiana. Thanks to Nancy.......................Ann Allen Geoghegan Dear America, I suppose we should introduce ourselves: We're South Louisiana. We have arrived on your doorstep on short notice and we apologize for that, but we never were much for waiting around for invitations. We're not much on formalities like that. And we might be staying around your town for a while, enrolling in your schools and looking for jobs, so we wanted to tell you a few things about us. We know you didn't ask for this and neither did we, so we're just going to have to make the best of it. First of all, we thank you. For your money, your water, your food, your prayers, your boats and buses and the men and women of your National Guards, fire departments, hospitals and everyone else who has come to our rescue. We're a fiercely proud and independent people, and we don't cotton much to outside interference, but we're not ashamed to accept help when we need it. And right now, we need it. Just don't get carried away. For instance, once we get around to fishing again, don't try to tell us what kind of lures work best in your waters. We're not going to listen. We're stubborn that way. You probably already know that we talk funny and listen to strange music and eat things you'd probably hire an exterminator to get out of your yard. We dance even if there's no radio. We drink at funerals. We talk too much and laugh too loud and live too large and, frankly, we're suspicious of others who don't. But we'll try not to judge you while we're in your town. Everybody loves their home, we know that. But we love South Louisiana with a ferocity that borders on the pathological. Sometimes we bury our dead in LSU sweatshirts. Often we don't make sense. You may wonder why, for instance - if we could only carry one small bag of belongings with us on our journey to your state - why in God's name did we bring a pair of shrimp boots? We can't really explain that. It is what it is. You've probably heard that many of us stayed behind. As bad as it is, many of us cannot fathom a life outside of our border, out in that place we call Elsewhere. The only way you could understand that is if you have been there, and so many of you have. So you realize that when you strip away all the craziness and bars and parades and music and architecture and all that hooey, really, the best thing about where we come from is us. We are what made this place a national treasure. We're good people. And don't be afraid to ask us how to pronounce our names. It happens all the time. When you meet us now and you look into our eyes, you will see the saddest story ever told. Our hearts are broken into a thousand pieces. But don't pity us. We're gonna make it. We're resilient. After all, we've been rooting for the Saints for 35 years. That's got to count for something. OK, maybe something else you should know is that we make jokes at inappropriate times. But what the hell. And one more thing: In our part of the country, we're used to having visitors. It's our way of life. So when all this is over and we move back home, we will repay to you the hospitality and generosity of spirit you offer to us in this season of our despair. That is our promise. That is our faith. ==== TXGEN Mailing List ==== This is NOT the proper list for posting genealogical research queries. 3. Hello, I will see what I can find on these people. Yes! I know of the search for the picture of the Bowles Plantation. Have you traced down the book with its picture in it? It will be a week from this coming Friday before I will be back in the Skipwith genealogy room but I will see what I can dig up. I normally don't do such as this, leaving it to my look-up people on my look-up page but two of my most dependables have resigned, one due to illness and the other have moved out of the country for awhile. So, I must do it, also I need more look-up volunteers so if you have any books pretaining to Lafayette county and will take a few minutes to look-up items for our researchers please, notify me . send your name and email addy and books you have for look-ups. If you would like to share any information with our veiwers , please, email it to me and I will get it up asap. I shall be working on the Craigh family this week. Later; evie

    3. Debra and all I apologize, I afraid I did jump the gun before I should. No, I had never heard of the Price Plantation until you wrote. But, after I wrote you I decided I would check and see what I could find about as I am always looking for unknown information to place on this web site. I don't usually do the work myself only taking submissions from descendants. I made an exception here as I did on the Ragland Murders, Here are your coordinates to the Old Washington Price Plantation: with a twp map to lead you to it. No cemetery is mention but there is an unknown cemetery in sec 21 several miles from sections 11, 12, 13, 14 which was where the Washington Price Plantation was located. There is no roads into the land today unless they are private drives. It is off CR 334 north of Yacona between Lizard ck and Little Kettle ck . Lizard ck seems to begin in his part of sec 14 and Monroe br. begins in his SW 1/4 of sec 14. Samuel E. Ragland's Patent was south of Yacona in Twp. 10, Range 2 ,sec. 16 pass the Delay community. 3. Debbie; I am a member of Skipwith Historical Society Board and have been doing deep research into the local history files and Family Files and have never heard of a "Price" Plantation". As I stated , on my website and in my announcement Ragland is the first Name mentioned as a Plantation in that Vincenty. I have all the cemetery notes make in 1969 and 1978 and there is no mention of a "Price" family cemetery. The closest family cemetery Known near the Ragland is the "McGonagill" which was once on the same property. This is what some of the men of the area are doing is looking for lost cemeteries. I will contact the Ragland descendant and ask her if her family has any record of these facts you are asking. blessings; Evie

    3. Evie, Would you please give me the contact info for Col. Ragland's descendant that you spoke of below? I am still searching for the site of the old Washington Price plantation home and family cemetery. I have found a reference among the slave narratives at Ancestry.com that states that the Ragland incident took place at the old Price plantation. I am thinking that when Col. Ragland moved to Lafayette County between 1850 and 1860, he may have purchased some of the land from the Price estate and Colonel's descendant just may know where the old Price family cemetery is located. Thanks so much!
